With the fall high school sports season coming to a close, it’s time to reveal the All-Coastal Preps teams. Over the next week, you will get to know more about the players of the year while also seeing who made first and second team in girls tennis, girls golf, boys cross country, girls cross country, boys soccer, volleyball and football.

First up is girls tennis. The Coastal Preps Player of the Year is senior Ana Sharbaugh from Cape Fear Academy.

Ana’s Accomplishments

New Hanover County has produced plenty of talented female tennis players over the past several decades. Ana Sharbaugh is right up there among the best.

Sharbaugh capped another tremendous season by going unbeaten at No. 1 singles for the fourth consecutive year. She was the four-time Coastal Rivers Conference Player of the Year and a four-time NCISAA All-State selection.

In her three matches against other members of the All-Coastal Preps teams (Laney’s Olivia Swivel, New Hanover’s Mary Davis Thompson and Hoggard’s Elizabeth Vollmin), Sharbaugh dropped only six games in six sets.

Sharbaugh helped the Hurricanes reach the NCISAA 3A state semifinals, where they lost to eventual champion and top-seeded St. David’s School.
