2021 Spring Previews: Southeastern Homeschool

Baseball

The Cardinals only managed to to get three games in during the 2020 season before COVID-19 hit.

Senior Kyler Schoonmaker is the leader of a fairly young team. He will pitch and play shortstop when he isn’t on the mound. Also returning is Jackson Travis, who will see time at both middle infield positions.

Southeastern Homeschool has a talented freshman class that includes second baseman Rayne Schoonmaker, pitcher/first baseman Landon Neal and pitcher/outfielder/first baseman Shark Baynard.

Coach Phillip Schoonmaker thinks the strength of the team will be its pitching staff and he is hopeful the team can earn a berth in the NCHEAC State Tournament.

Boys Tennis

Coach Shelley Boehling has a talented team that doesn’t feature any seniors.

Sophomore Brock Boehling, one of the area’s top players, will hold down the No. 1 singles spot. Classmates Davidson Good, David McCabe, Joshua Flood and Cole Stockman (transfer from New Hanover) should also see time in the lineup.

The top juniors are Maverick Maready and Zachary Leake, while freshman Joshua Bebb should also make an immediate impact.

Expect the Cardinals to be one of the area’s top teams this season.

Boys Golf

Six of the Cardinals’ top seven players are underclassmen, so the new program should be in good hands for several years.

Head coach Ash Good and assistant Craig Pawling began the team in 2020, but the inaugural season was cut short.

Leading the way this season will be freshmen Jude Aliah and Colby Hutchens along with sophomore Davidson Good, who also stars on the tennis and soccer teams.
