The Coastal Preps Cup is a point-based system that will determine the best overall public middle school interscholastic sports programs in New Hanover County.

There will be a boys winner and a girls winner at the conclusion of each school year.

Each Coastal Preps Cup winner will receive two plaques – one will be for permanent display at the school and the second can be displayed for a calendar year before it goes to the following year’s winner.

Coastal Preps owner Tim Hower will present the winning schools with their plaques at the conclusion of the final season.

All seven schools (Holly Shelter, Murray, Myrtle Grove, Noble, Roland-Grise, Trask and Williston) will be awarded points for all sanctioned sports. The team that finishes in first place at the conclusion of the regular season will receive 7 points, second place will receive 6 points, third place will receive 5 points, fourth place will receive 4 points, fifth place will receive 3 points, sixth place will receive 2 points and seventh place will receive 1 point.

Head-to-head matchups will be used to break ties between two or more schools. If the tie can not be broken, the teams will share points.

If teams play an unequal number of games, winning percentages will be used to determine the order of finish.

Cross country points will be awarded solely based on the team results from the final meet of the season.
