Tanner Collins (Ashley) pitched six scoreless innings with six strikeouts and Wilmington wrapped up the Area II regular season title with a road victory.

Collins didn’t walk a batter and scattered only six hits. The righty hasn’t allowed an earned run in 17 innings this summer.

Wilmington (9-0) will conclude the regular season at Port City Post 545 on Wednesday at 7 p.m. They will host the winner of the play-in game between No. 4 Hampstead and No. 5 Hamlet in Game 1 of the Area II semifinals on Sunday evening.

The other semifinals will feature No. 2 Port City vs. No. 3 Morehead City.

Drew Tyndall (Ashley) led the way offensively for Wilmington by going 3-for-4 with a double and a triple. Jason Culley (Hoggard) and Bennett McNeill (Hoggard) each hit a double.

Wilmington grabbed the lead for good in the top of the second inning. Jack Shearin (New Hanover) and Cooper Wallace (Hoggard) hit back-to-back two-out singles to load the bases. Culley (Hoggard) followed with one of his two walks to score Brody Sumner (Hoggard).

The lead doubled on a two-out single to right field from Jacob Savage (Hoggard) that scored Aleck Creech (New Hanover) in the third inning.

Tyndall singled home Shearin in the fourth inning. The final two runs were scored an inning later on wild pitches.

Sumner finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Creech crossed the plate twice.
