Coastal Christian 5, Wilmington Christian Academy 2

Maguire Craddock and Cheeto Keeter allowed only two hits and struck out eight in 6 2/3 scoreless innings of relief to lead the Centurions to a home victory.

Coastal Christian (2-1) trailed 2-0 after the top of the first inning before scoring three runs in the bottom half of the frame. Gage Griffin singled home Keeter and Tre’von Davis-Pearson to tie the score and Blake Buer singled home Griffin for what turned out to be the winning run.

Griffin and Connor Leach both collected a pair of hits to lead the way. Craddock picked up the victory and Keeter got the save.

WCA (1-3) senior shortstop Zane Bloom went 2-for-2 with a walk and a run. Hayden Naylor took the loss despite allowing only two earned runs and striking out six in six innings.

Laney 10, Croatan 4

Sophomore Connor Kane went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run and also struck out four in 2 1/3 innings out of the bullpen to lead the Buccaneers to the win.

Laney (3-1) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Toby Stone delivered a two-out single to score Chris Konrady. The first seven batters in the fourth inning reached and five scored to increase the advantage to 6-0. Matt Linkner and Mayes Peterson each had a two-run single.

Conrady was the winning pitcher. He allowed three runs on four hits with a strikeout in 4 2/3 innings.

South Brunswick 10, Pender 0 (5 innings)

Aubrey Smith scattered two hits and struck out 13 in the mercy-rule home victory.

Smith needed only 65 pitches to record the 15 outs.  He threw 52 strikes and didn’t walk a batter.

South Brunswick (2-2) got a 4-for-4 performance with two doubles, four RBI and two runs from freshman standout Walker Jenkins. ECU commit Cameron Burgess blasted a two-run homer in the top of the first inning. 

Whiteville 13, West Brunswick 5

Luke Hardee had a pair of hits, including a double, and drove in two runs in the defeat. 

West Brunswick (0-2) fell behind 10-1 before making things interesting with a four-run bottom of the fifth. Hardee also did a nice job on the mound by allowing two hits and striking out two in 1 2/3 innings.

SOFTBALL

Pender 14, South Brunswick 1 (5 innings)

Telisha Moore finished 4-for-4 with a triple, three RBI and two runs and the Patriots remained unbeaten.

Pender (4-0) also got two doubles, four RBI and two runs from Lauren Gammons as well as two hits, three RBI and two runs from Kaitlyn Beaver. Mayce Wood went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs and two RBI.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Hoggard 21, Topsail 11

Claire Witmer, Katie Witmer and Alyssa Fizer all scored four goals in the dominant home nonconference win.

Katie Witmer also had four assists, five ground balls and 15 draw controls, while Fizer added two assists and six draw controls.

Hoggard (4-1) also got three assists and two goals from Raegan McGowen.

The loss dropped Topsail to 3-1.

BOYS LACROSSE

Hoggard 9, New Bern 5

The Vikings went on the road and secured the victory thanks to 16 saves from goalkeeper Logan Trafton.

Offensively, Hoggard (3-0) got a pair of goals and two assists from freshman standout Kenan Everhart. Devin Noonan and Brandon Broadwater both found the back of the net twice.

West Brunswick 8, North Brunswick 2

A hat trick from Bailey Gentile helped the Trojans pick up their second win in as many days.

West Brunswick is now 2-0 and North Brunswick is 0-1.

Ashley 10, Cape Fear Academy 6

Jack Marshall led the way offensively with five goals and goalkeeper Ryan Harris was terrific with 14 saves.

The win improved Ashley to 2-2 on the season, while CFA dropped to 1-2.

BOYS TENNIS

New Hanover 9, Ashley 0

The Wildcats lost only one game in nine matches to cruise to a victory.

Griffith Waren (No. 1), Alan Dimock (No. 2), John Hewlett West (No. 3), Emerson Woolwine (No. 5) and Henry Boney (No. 6) all won their singles matches 6-0, 6-0. Knox Lamar picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4.

Waren and Dimock (No. 1), West and Lamar (No. 2) and Woolwine and Cole Stockman (No. 3) cruised to 8-0 doubles victories.

New Hanover is now 4-0 overall and in the Mideastern Conference. Ashley fell to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in league play.

BOYS GOLF

New Bern 312, Hoggard 316, Cape Fear Academy 349, West Carteret 391

Hoggard senior Jakob Batchelor shot a 3-over-par 75 to earn medalist honors at the nonconfernce match held at Pine Valley Country Club.

GIRLS SOCCER

South Brunswick 8, Pender 0

The Cougars build a 6-0 halftime lead and tacked on two more goals to secure the home win.

No other information was provided. South Brunswick is now 2-0 and Pender fell to 1-2.

West Brunswick 1, South Columbus 1

No information was provided.

West Brunswick is now 1-1-1.
