GIRLS TENNIS

Hoggard 8, South Brunswick 1

The Vikings got 6-0, 6-0 singles victories from Lucy Boswell (No. 3), Mary Westendorff (No. 5) and Megan Corrigan (No. 6).

Chloe Bright dropped only one game at No. 5, while Katie Sechrist picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2.

Hoggard (3-2, 2-1 Mideastern) swept all three doubles courts. The teams of Corrigan/Kristiahn Foster (No. 2) and Lily Bobo/Mia Mormando (No. 3) won by identical 8-3 scores. Zoe Wilcox and Hailey Schreiber teamed up for an 8-4 victory at No. 1.

South Brunswick (1-4, 0-3) senior Sarah Subach earned a hard-fought 6-2, 3-6, 10-6 win at No. 1 singles.

Both teams are back in action Tuesday at 4 p.m. Hoggard hosts Ashley, while the Cougars welcome Laney.

New Hanover 9, Ashley 0

The Wildcats lost only seven games in singles and eight in doubles to remain unbeaten.

Sara Frances Butler (No. 2) and Hanna Davis (No. 4) cruised to 6-0, 6-0 wins, while Sarah Stephens dropped only one game at No. 6. The other three victories came by identical 6-1, 6-1 scores from Sophia Catino (No. 1), Lucy Dimock (No. 3) and Caroline Morrison (No. 5).

Molly Weinberg and Estelle Monteith won 8-0 at No. 2 doubles. The teams of Davis/Piper Monteith (No. 1) and Anna Holt Basinger/Sydney Hundley (No. 3) picked up 8-4 victories.

New Hanover (4-0, 4-0 Mideastern) plays at Topsail on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Ashley (3-2, 1-2) plays at Hoggard at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Laney 9, Dixon 0

Macy Thompson picked up a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1 to help the Buccaneers sweep the season series.

Hailey Russell (No. 1) and Linnea Durham (No. 5) both dropped only one game. Laney (6-1) also got wins from Ava Broadwell (6-4, 6-2 at No. 2), Lily Golla (6-4, 6-0 at No. 3) and Avery Ward (6-4, 6-2 at No. 6).

Durham and Grace Ensign earned a hard-fought 9-7 victory at No. 1 doubles. The teams of Thompson/Gweneth Powell (No. 2) and Grace Smith/Cameron Balderson (No. 3) won by identical 8-4 scores.

The Buccaneers visit South Brunswick at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Arendell Parrott Academy 5, Cape Fear Academy 4

Taylor Garriott was victorious in singles and doubles, but the Hurricanes fell at home.

Garriott teamed up with Isabel Bellamy for an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles. Arendell Parrott Academy won the other two courts to take a lead into singles play.

Garriott cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles. Elle Harmon picked up a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 4. CFA’s (4-1) other point came from Blythe Crocker, who won 6-3, 7-6(4) at No. 6.

The Hurricanes play at St. Mary’s School in Raleigh on Friday at 4 p.m.

Mideastern Conference match at Castle Bay

For the fourth straight match, freshman Ellie Hildreth claimed medalist honors to help the Vikings secure the team win.

Hildreth fired a 4-under-par 68 to secure a five-shot victory over Topsail’s Eliza Fogleman. Her round included six birdies.

Hoggard also counted an 83 from Grace Caudill as well as a 91 from Kayla Statile. 

Fogleman shot a 37 on the front nine and lowered that number by one stroke on the back side en route to a 73. South Brunswick’s Jillian Fatkin (74) finished third, while Ashley’s Sarah Enright tied Statile for fifth with a 91.

Laney had three players card rounds under 100. Ella Ronner and Mary Katherine O’Malley both shot 92, and Karly Woodall finished with a 98.

Topsail’s other counting scores were a 99 from Lillian Swan and a 100 from Heidi Krieger.

Trask’s Julia Plunk competed as an individual and made a hole-in-one on her first hole of the season.

BOYS SOCCER

Cape Fear Academy 6, Arendell Parrott Academy 0

Henry Steven scored in the fifth minute off an assist from Jeb Losch and the Hurricanes built a comfortable 5-0 halftime lead in the home victory.

Steven also found the back of the net in the 37th minute. Losch (14th), Adam Politi (24th), Nikita Ivanov (34th) and George Wall (77th) had CFA’s (8-2) other goals.

Cameron Arne and Sterling Gianoplus both dished out an assist. Goalkeeper Hunter Sanderford stopped all three shots he faced to earn the clean sheet.

The Hurricanes welcome Southeastern Homeschool on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Topsail 3, Pender 1

Tanner Kelly, James Manning and Tyler Kroma each found the back of the net in the first half to lead the Pirates to a road win.

Manning’s goal was assisted by Maddox Kelly, while Kroma scored off an assist from Wyatt Holly.

Topsail (2-1) will begin Mideastern Conference play at home against South Brunswick on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Tyler Guzman scored Pender’s (1-2-1) lone goal off an assist from Jared Bautista. Goalkeeper Clay Lanier finished with eight saves.

The Patriots host Dixon at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Southeastern Homeschool 0, Fayetteville Homeschool 0

Goalkeeper Davidson Good made eight saves to help the Cardinals earn a draw.

Both teams created several quality chances, but were unable to finish.

Next up for Southeastern Homeschool (0-4-1) is a road match against Cape Fear Academy on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

VOLLEYBALL

Epiphany School 3, Wilmington Christian Academy 0

(26-24, 25-20, 28-26)

Senior Lauren Longbottom finished with eight assists, seven kills, five aces and three digs in the tough home loss.

WCA (4-3, 0-1 NCCSA AA District 3) also got eight kills and one ace from Kenleigh Todd as well as seven assists, three aces and one kill from Abby Pietro.

Natalie Hodge served three aces, and Caroline Prease put down three kills to go along with one ace.

Next up for the Patriots is a home match against Hilltop Christian on Tuesday night at 5:15.
