Now that the spring sports season has come to a close, it’s time to reveal the All-Coastal Preps teams. Over the past week, you’ve gotten to know more about the players of the year while also seeing who made first and second team in boys tennis, boys and girls track & field, boys and girls lacrosse, boys golf, girls soccer, softball and baseball.

The Coastal Preps Baseball Position Player of the Year is junior Walker Jenkins from South Brunswick.

Walker’s Accomplishments

Not many players in Southeastern N.C. have ever had a better season than Walker Jenkins.

The center fielder helped the South Brunswick baseball team finish 25-5 overall and 11-3 in the Mideastern Conference. It was the first league title since 1988.

Jenkins finished with a .527 average to go along with 13 doubles, two triples, 10 home runs, 18 stolen bases, 40 RBIs and 49 runs scored.

He also worked 23 walks and struck out only nine times. Jenkins’ on-base percentage was a remarkable .628 and his slugged 1.032.

Jenkins had 17 multi-hit games, including three in the NCHSAA 3A State Championship Series.

A true five-tool player, Jenkins didn’t commit an error and had one outfield assist. Most teams wouldn’t even run on Jenkins, who has one of the strongest and most accurate arms in the state.

He was named the N.C. Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year, becoming just the second player in Brunswick County history to earn the honor.
