Coastal Christian 5, Fayetteville Academy 0

Caroline Taylor scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal off a corner kick from Morgan Fritz and the Centurions built a 3-0 halftime lead and never looked back.

Elsa Johnson scored twice, while Fritz and Brooke Allen also found the back of the net for Coastal Christian (4-4-1, 1-0 Coastal Rivers), which plays at Cape Fear Academy on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Goalkeepers Betsy Wheeler and Emily White shared the clean sheet.

Cape Fear Academy 4, Harrells Christian Academy 1

Ella Forkin scored a pair of goals and the Hurricanes opened Coastal Rivers Conference play with a solid victory.

CFA (3-3, 1-0) also got one goal a piece from Alena Gianoplus and Mia Neuwirth. Delia McFarlane and Anna Itzkowitz each dished out an assist. 

The Hurricanes host Coastal Christian at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Wilmington Christian Academy 2, Raleigh Christian Academy 1

Seniors Mia Marino and Alex Kutter each found the back of the net to help the Patriots pick up a hard-fought home win.

Olivia Dahl had the only assist for WCA (5-3). Goalkeeper Emma Lane finished with one save.

The Patriots hosts Hilltop Christian on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Laney 9, West Brunswick 0

For the second night in a row, junior midfielder Taylor Chism scored a pair of goals to lead the Buccaneers to a win. 

Laney (7-2) also got two goals from Sara Smith. Emma Carr, Lou Lou Ensign, Emma Lewis, Gigi Jones and Dakota Workman also found the back of the net.

The Buccaneers play at New Hanover on Thursday at 5 p.m. West Brunswick (0-9) visits Hoggard at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Topsail 3, New Hanover 0

The Pirates completed the season sweep by building a 2-0 halftime lead and added an insurance goal in the second half. 

Individual stats for Topsail (4-5) weren’t provided.

New Hanover (2-5) goalkeeper Isabella Ellison made four saves. 

Next up for the Pirates is a home match against South Brunswick on Thursday night at 5. The Wildcats host Laney at 5 p.m. Thursday.

South Brunswick 7, North Brunswick 0

The Cougars put home three goals in the opening half and tacked on four more over the final 40 minutes to come away with a road victory.

No individual stats were provided.

Both teams are back in action Thursday at 5 p.m. South Brunswick (5-3) plays at Topsail, while North Brunswick (1-7) visits Ashley.

BOYS TENNIS

New Hanover 6, Topsail 3

Augie Ballantine cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles and later partnered with Alan Dimock for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles to lead the Wildcats.

Dimock picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. New Hanover’s (6-1) other singles victories came from Knox Lamar (6-1, 6-3 at No. 3) and Sam Bradshaw (6-1, 6-2 at No. 5).

Lamar and Emerson Woolwine dropped only three games at No. 2 doubles.

Topsail (4-3) got a hard-fought 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 victory at No. 4 singles from Bobby Toler. Justin Kohler won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6.

Kohler teamed up with Bentley Reece to earn an 8-6 victory at No. 3 doubles. 

Both teams are back in action Thursday at 4 p.m. The Wildcats host Laney and the Pirates play at South Brunswick.

Hoggard 9, Ashley 0

The Vikings remained unbeaten in Mideastern Conference play with their sixth 9-0 victory of the season.

Dalton Feldman (No. 2), Samin Bhan (No. 4), Jake Morris (No. 5) and Grant Sutherland (No. 6) all won 6-0, 6-0, while Varun Varadarajan (No. 1) and Quaid Sutherland (No. 3) both picked up 6-1, 6-0 wins.

Morris and Grant Sutherland dropped only one game at No. 1 doubles, while the teams of Sarthek Mishra/Jack Rollins (No. 2) and Ryan Boaz/Hank Hudson (No. 3) both won by identical 8-2 scores.

Hoggard (7-1, 7-0 Mideastern) visits at South Brunswick on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

SOFTBALL

North Brunswick 8, South Brunswick 5

The Scorpions downed their county rival thanks to a five-run first inning that was highlighted by a two-run double from Cameryn Lisi.

Lisi finished the night 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. Haven Wittkofsky went 3-for-3 with a double, triple, two RBI and two runs scored.

North Brunswick (4-5) also got a double from Jelene Avila. Jamie Reece reached base three times and scored three runs.

Haley Kirby and Madison Grotzinger each had a pair of hits for South Brunswick (1-8). Abby Honeycutt and Kristen Johnson both had one RBI and one run scored.

The Scorpions host Ashley at 5 p.m. Thursday. The Cougars visits Topsail on Thursday night at 5.

Laney 5, West Brunswick 0

Kendyl Elliott threw a complete game and allowed only three hits to lead the Buccaneers to a home win.

Laney (6-3) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning before adding two runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Faith Milligan had a pair of singles and a run scored. Elliott, Regan Stewart and Ella Simmons each drove in a run.

The Buccaneers welcome New Hanover at 5 p.m. Thursday. West Brunswick (4-5) hosts Hoggard on Thursday at 5 p.m.

Hoggard 14, Ashley 0 (5 innings)

The Vikings racked up 15 hits from 11 players and senior Icess Tresvik turned in another dominant pitching performance.

Tresvik tossed a one-hitter with nine strikeouts. She also went 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and one RBI.

Isabella Colbert, Maddie Scanlan and Allie Royal each collected a pair of hits for Hoggard (9-0). Colbert, Sydney Short and Gracie Mabrey all doubled. Royal finished with two RBI and two runs scored. 

Hannah Douglas collected the lone hit for Ashley (4-5), which travels to North Brunswick on Thursday at 5 p.m.

The Vikings travel to West Brunswick at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Topsail 14, New Hanover 1 (5 innings)

Leadoff hitter Zoey Vincent had a triple, three walks, two RBI and two runs scored and the Pirates scored all 14 runs in the first three innings.

Kinley Jordan and Lynnsey Benson each collected a pair of hits, while Summer Hall drove in three runs and crossed the plate twice. 

Vincent pitched two hitless innings and finished with five strikeouts. Jocelyn Collins finished out the game and struck out three.

Topsail (8-1) hosts South Brunswick on Thursday at 5 p.m. New Hanover (0-9) plays at Laney at 5 p.m. Thursday. 

GIRLS LACROSSE

Cape Fear Academy 13, St. Mary’s School 7

Devon Cavanaugh scored a game-high seven goals and dished out three assists to lead the Hurricanes to a comfortable win.

Elle Harmon and Isabel Bellamy each found the back of the net twice, while Leah Murtagh put home one goal for CFA (5-1), which welcomes Fayetteville Academy at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Goalie Chloe Adler finished with seven saves.

BASEBALL

Coastal Christian 8, Fayetteville Academy 2

The Centurions were led offensively by senior Troy Lacerte, who went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored.

Will Morgan had a double and drove in a pair of runs. Coastal Christian (2-6) finished with six hits and six stolen bases.

William Newton struck out four in 3 1/3 innings on the mound. Lacerte didn’t allow a run in three innings, while Dominic Libretto recorded a pair of outs.

Next up for the Centurions is a road game at Wake County Homeschool at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Wilmington Christian Academy 11, Faith Christian Academy 3

A five-run second inning put the Patriots on top and they continued to pull away for a road victory.

Trey Pierce and Weston Waddell each collected a double. Waddell drove in four runs and scored twice, while Pierce had one RBI and crossed the plate once.

Tyler Brooks went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks, two runs scored and one RBI. Caleb Carroll scored three times.

Hayden Naylor had a dominant performance on the mound. He allowed only two hits and struck out 16 batters in six innings before turning things over to Pierce, who fanned two of the three hitters he faced.
