Now that the spring sports season has come to a close, it’s time to reveal the All-Coastal Preps teams. Over the past two weeks, you’ve gotten to know more about the players of the year, while also seeing who made first and second team in boys golf, boys tennis, boys and girls track & field, boys and girls lacrosse, softball, girls soccer and baseball.

The Coastal Preps Baseball Pitcher of the Year is senior Bromley Thornton of New Hanover.

Bromley’s Accomplishments

Bromley Thornton joined forces with Sean Smith, the other Coastal Preps Co-Pitcher of the Year, to form the most dominant starting rotation in the area.

Thornton went 10-1 with a 0.76 ERA and 105 strikeouts in 74 innings. The UNCW signee threw four complete games.

He struck out at least eight batters on seven occasions, including a career-high 15 in 7 1/3 innings against Topsail on March 28. At one point in the season, Thornton went 45 consecutive innings over eight appearances without allowing an earned run.

New Hanover claimed the Mideastern Conference title by going 12-2. The Wildcats finished 24-3 overall and reached the fourth round of the 4A playoffs.

Thornton was also one of the team’s best offensive players. He hit a team-best .400 (30-for-75) with nine doubles, one home run, 19 RBI and 25 runs scored.
