Savannah Manset scored early in the second half to give the Screaming Eagles an impressive home victory between two of the state’s most talented teams.

Ashley (11-0-1) goalkeeper Morgan Tucker made several terrific saves to earn the clean sheet.

Next up is a road match against North Brunswick on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

BASEBALL

No. 5 New Hanover 5, Hough 4

A two-out single up the middle from Toby Southerland lifted the Wildcats to a walk-off win.

Southerland went 3-for-4 with a double, stolen base and one run scored. New Hanover (9-8) also got doubles from Camden Croom and Evan Skobel.

The bottom of the seventh inning began with Skobel reaching on a dropped third strike. He continued all the way to second base on a throwing error from the Hough catcher.

Another error from the visitors kept the inning alive and allowed Skobel to advance to third. That set the stage for Southerland’s heroics.

Davis Hinshaw got the win by allowing one run on one hit in two innings of relief. Starter Tate Nelson didn’t factor into the decision. He pitched five innings with three strikeouts.
