BOYS GOLF

Pinecrest Invitational

at Pinehurst No. 6 (Par 72)

Hoggard, New Hanover and Topsail were among the 19 teams that competed in the event.

New Hanover tied its season-best score of 289 to finish in third place. They were three strokes behind runner-up Green Hope and five strokes back of champion and host Pinecrest.

Carson Etters tied for medalist honors with a 4-under-par 68. His round included five birdies, 12 pars and just one bogey. 

The Wildcats also got a 73 from Will Cherry as well as 74s from Frank Averitt and Chris Andrew Etters.

Maddux Cook carded a 74 to pace Hoggard, which placed 17th as a team with a 316. They were followed by Topsail’s with a 319.

The other counting scores for the Vikings were a 76 from Dylan Lewis, an 81 from Gray Hudson and an 85 from Jackson Hoyle.

Bryce Koehler led the way for the Pirates with a 75. David Quinones (78), Will Morgan (82) and Jack Batts (84) registered the other counting scores.

SOFTBALL

Lumberton 7, No. 3 Hoggard 6

The Vikings collected 12 hits, including three from senior center fielder Bella Roberts, but it wasn’t enough.

Jordan Martin, Sydney Ciamillo and Emersen Hutchins each finished with two hits. Martin was the only Hoggard (13-7) player to cross the plate a pair of times.

A two-run double from Ciamillo in the second inning gave the Vikings a 4-3 lead. Lumberton (19-3) scored four runs of its own in the fifth to grab the lead for good.

Macey Ciamillo pitched the final two innings and allowed only one hit.

Next up is a road game against Ashley at 6 p.m. Thursday.
