Freshman Will Pohlman shot a 1-under-par 71 to earn a three-stroke victory over teammate Spencer Mills and lead the Hurricanes to another Coastal Rivers Conference win.

It was Pohlman’s second victory in four starts this season. He also lowered his stroke average to 73.8, which is the third best in the area.

All six Hurricanes finished in the top-10. The other counting score was a 76 from Stephen Chiavetta.

William Wells shot 77, Cash Scerri finished at 78 and Pierce Underwood carded an 80.

Coastal Christian’s only score below 100 was a 91 from Sam Dieffenbauch.

GIRLS SOCCER

No. 8 Cape Fear Academy 8, John Paul II 0

Lucy Lauber scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the opening minute of the game, and she later assisted on another in the lopsided home victory.

Milly Kelly finished with one goal and two assists, while Erin Bradley found the back of the net in the 67th and 74th minutes.

Claire Furmidge and Mia Neuwirth each had one goal and one assist for CFA (5-1-1), which plays at rival Coastal Christian on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Marial Cantalapiedra scored in the 38th minute. There was also an own goal from John Paul II.

Goalkeepers Naomi Shanewise, Nadya Kotylarevska and Allie Haslam shared the clean sheet.

No. 2 Hoggard 9, No. 6 South Brunswick 0

Bella Steiner and Ella Johnson both recorded hat tricks in the mercy-rule home win.

It was the first action of the season for Johnson, the reigning Coastal Preps Offensive Player of the Year. She tore her ACL in early June.

Hoggard (5-1-1, 2-0-0 Mideastern) also got one goal and one assist from Lilly Smiley as well as three assists from Sophia Johnson.

Avery Barr and Lila Jane Wilson both found the back of the net once. Carlie Moroz and Ellis Kelly each dished out an assist.

Goalkeepers Allie Fox and Avery Kievit split time to share the clean sheet.

Both teams are back in action Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Vikings host New Hanover, while South Brunswick (3-3-1, 1-2-1) welcomes West Brunswick.

No. 13 Trask 2, Wallace-Rose Hill 1

The Titans snapped a three-match losing streak with an impressive road victory.

When the teams met at Trask (3-10) on Friday, the Bulldogs came away with a 6-0 win.

Kenya Lewis had both goals, including one off an assist from Emilie Therrasant.

The Titans host West Columbus on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

No. 9 Wilmington Christian Academy 9, Bethel Christian Academy 0

Eighth grader Katelyn Lucera scored three goals and added an assist to lead the Patriots.

WCA (6-1-0, 3-0-0 NCCSA 2A District 4) led 6-0 at halftime before adding three more goals to end the game by mercy rule.

Ana Garner, Sarah Garner and Lauren Steinhauer all had one goal and one assist. The other goals were scored by Olivia Dail, Delaney Sartin and Anna Whitehead.

Sydney Langford and Camryn Steinhauer both dished out an assist.

Emma Lane stopped both shots she faced to preserve the shutout.

SOFTBALL

No. 6 Ashley 9, East Columbus 8

The Screaming Eagles scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to rally for an impressive road win.

Senior Riley Gladden delivered the game-winning double to center field that allowed Hannah Douglas and Sawyer Rigdon to cross the plate.

Rigdon went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Douglas had three hits and a pair of runs scored, while Madyson Daughtry finished 2-for-3 and crossed the plate three times.

Ashley (4-7) scored four runs in the first inning before falling behind 8-4 after four.

Douglas entered the circle in relief in the second inning and allowed only one earned run on five hits in 5 1/3 innings to earn the victory.

The Screaming Eagles play at North Brunswick on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

No. 3 Hoggard 5, No. 5 Trask 1

UNCW commit Allie Royal belted her second home run of the season and Sydney Ciamillo had a double and a triple in the home win.

Hoggard (5-3) finished with 10 hits, including two a piece from Royal and Bella Roberts. Casey Clemmer drove in a pair of runs with a two-out double in the fourth inning.

Freshman pitcher Macey Ciamillo struck out nine batters and allowed only four hits in a complete game.

Madalyn White scored Trask’s (6-5) only run in the top of the first inning on a fielder’s choice.

The Vikings play at Ashley on Thursday at 6 p.m., while the Titans return home at 6 p.m. Tuesday against East Columbus.

BASEBALL

No. 10 Wilmington Christian Academy 4, Bethel Christian Academy 1

A two-out single from Ryan Donaldson allowed Caleb Carroll to score what turned out to be the winning run in the second inning.

WCA (2-3, 1-1 NCCSA 2A East) evened the score at 1-all earlier in the inning on a single to right field from Mason Myhand that plated Ryder Whitacre.

Carroll finished 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored. Whitacre also reached base three times and crossed the plate twice.

Myhand pitched a complete game and struck out six batters to earn the victory. The run he allowed was unearned.

Next up for the Patriots is a road game at Village Christian Academy on Friday at 4:30 p.m. 

BOYS LACROSSE

No. 8 Cape Fear Academy 16, John Paul II 1

The Hurricanes had no trouble earning their third win in four matches.

Connor O’Keefe led the way with four goals.

CFA (3-5) visits St. David’s School on Thursday at 4:15 p.m.
