Junior Brooke Osterhoudt hit .400 with seven kills on 15 swings with only one error to guide the Buccaneers to a dominant home win.

Osterhoudt also added four aces, two digs and one block.

Laney (2-1) served a remarkable 24 aces, including a team-high 10 from Isabel Sandstrum. Jamie Wurtzbacher chipped in four.

Sandstrum also had five digs, three kills and one block. Corina Vale led the team with seven digs, while Mack Murnane dished out eight assists.

The Buccaneers host South View on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Pender (0-1) travels to Wallace-Rose Hill at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

East Bladen 3, North Brunswick 1

(32-30, 19-25, 25-22, 25-18)

The Scorpions put up a valiant fight, but still saw their losing streak grow to 18.

A kill from junior Maddie Floyd gave North Brunswick (0-4) a 24-22 lead in the opening set. They had a total of seven set points, but couldn’t put any away. 

East Bladen eventually capitalized on its second set point to grab the early lead.

The Scorpions trailed 15-13 in the second set before going on a 7-0 run by a  to grab control. Danielle Rammrath ended the set with an ace.

The third set was tied at 19-19 before the visitors won six of the next nine points. That momentum also carried into the final set.

The two teams with meet again Tuesday, this time at East Bladen, at 6 p.m.

Whiteville 3, West Brunswick 0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-17)

GIRLS TENNIS

Coastal Christian 8, South Brunswick 1

The Centurions cruised to a road victory thanks to a 6-0, 6-0 singles wins from DK Britt (No. 1) and Betsy Wheeler (No. 6).

Evelyn Kent (6-1, 6-0 at No. 2), Savannah Spears (6-3, 6-2 at No. 3) and Hannah Grace (6-3, 6-1 at No. 5) also picked up straight set victories.

Coastal Christian (1-1) completed the singles sweep with a hard-fought 3-6, 7-6(5), 10-8 win from Elsa Johnson at No. 4.

Britt and Kent didn’t drop a game at No. 1 doubles, while Spears teamed up with Emily White for an 8-3 victory at No. 2.

South Brunswick (0-1) got an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles from Julia Wagaman and Allie Hicks.

The Centurions are back in action Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Ashley. The Cougars open Mideastern Conference play at home against West Brunswick at 4 p.m. Thursday.

BOYS SOCCER

Fayetteville Homeschool 3, Southeastern Homeschool 1

Lucas Adkins scored the lone goal for the Cardinals in the 37th minute.

Southeastern Homeschool (0-2) goalkeeper Davidson Good had another terrific performance by finishing with 14 saves. A couple of those kept the Cardinals in the match with the score 2-1.

Next up for Southeastern Homeschool is a road match against New Bern Homeschool on Friday night.
