BOYS BASKETBALL
No. 6 West Brunswick 75, Pinecrest 74
First round Holiday in the Pines at Pinecrest
Kevon Daniels made the game-winning layup with five seconds remaining to put the Trojans into the semifinals.
West Brunswick (5-4) will take on Chapel Hill at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Tigers picked up a 76-63 win over Willow Spring.
JJ Cobb tied for a game-high with 18 points, including seven in the first quarter. McCall had 17 points and Daniels chipped in 12.
The Trojans opened the fourth quarter on a 14-5 run to build a 70-64 lead. Pinecrest rallied to take a 74-73 lead before Daniels’ heroics put the visitors back in front for good.
No. 5 Trask 67, Living Water Christian 62
First round ML Carr Invitational at Wallace-Rose Hill
Four Titans reached double figures, led by 19 points from sophomore Sherrod Henderson, in the exciting comeback win.
Trask (6-2) trailed 53-44 after three quarter, but outscored Living Water Christian 23-9 over the final eight minutes.
Myron Mckoy added 14 points, while Isaac Turner finished with 13. The Titans also got 11 points from Jamiel Davis.
Trask will take on host Wallace-Rose Hill in the semifinals Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.
No. 8 Coastal Christian 47, No. 13 Pender 17
First round ML Carr Invitational at Wallace-Rose Hill
The Centurions scored 37 points in the middle two quarters to pull away and advance to the semifinals.
Coastal Christian (7-6) was once again led by Aidan Davies, who broke his own school record for points in a game with 38.
The talented junior forward scored 35 points a season ago in a win over Arendell Parrott Academy.
Pender (0-8), which led 5-4 after the first quarter, got four points from Reinaldo Walker.
Wallace-Rose Hill 46, No. 12 Southeastern Homeschool 38
First round ML Carr Invitational at Wallace-Rose Hill
Thomas Sousa’s 23 points kept the Cardinals within shouting distance, but the loss of two starters proved to be too much to overcome.
Southeastern Homeschool (3-9) played without leading scorer Blake Batts and sharpshooter Brock Boehling.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
No. 8 North Brunswick 50, Union 31
Third-place game Fox/Horne Classic at Clinton
Mariah Bell scored 14 points and Ayanna Meyers added 13 in the bounce-back victory.
North Brunswick (4-7) suffered a 49-25 loss to host Clinton in the semifinals Monday night.
The Scorpions trailed 21-16 at halftime before outscoring the Spartans 34-10 over the final 16 minutes.
