BOYS BASKETBALL

No. 6 Laney 82, Dillon Christian (S.C.) 20

First round Bladen Offroad Christmas Tournament at West Bladen

Joe Bachman outscored Dillon Christian by himself with a game-high 21 points.

Laney (7-1) led 25-3 after the opening quarter and extended it to 48-16 at halftime.

Eleven Buccaneers contributed points. Chris Rodriguez finished with 12, while Josh Helms chipped in 10. Both players drained a pair of 3-pointers.

Laney takes on West Columbus in the semifinals at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

No. 12 South Brunswick 54, Red Springs 51

Semifinals East Columbus Christmas Tournament

Caleb Bernard scored 11 of his team-high 17 points in the second half to help the Cougars hold on for a hard-fought victory.

South Brunswick (2-5) will take on host East Columbus in the championship game Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Gators advanced with a 47-40 win over South Columbus.

The Cougars also got nine points from Jaylend Clemmons and Shawn Holmes as well as eight a piece from Bishop Brown and Ford Disbrow. 

No. 9 Southeastern Homeschool 68, Wallace-Rose Hill 52

Semifinals Wallace-Rose Hill Christmas Tournament

The Cardinals scored at least 15 points in every quarter to down the tournament host and advance to the title game.

Brantley Springer led all scorers with 18 points, while Jayden Johnson chipped in 16 for Southeastern Homeschool (7-4).

They will take on Pender at 7:30 p.m. The Patriots earned a spot in the championship with a 65-31 victory over North Duplin.

A 17-point second quarter helped the Cardinals increase their lead to 35-22 at halftime.

Blake Batts chipped in nine points, while Brice Griffin added seven.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

No. 7 North Brunswick 60, Union 21

Third-place game Fox/Horne Classic at Sampson Middle School

Three Scorpions reached double figures in the dominant bounce-back victory.

Laney Scoggins led all scorers with 17 points. North Brunswick (6-4) also got 13 points from Tamiya Oates and 11 from Abby Trexler.

The Scorpions will look to make it back-to-back victories when they play at Coastal Christian on Wednesday night at 6.
