BOYS BASKETBALL

No. 9 North Brunswick 63, Scotland County 57

First round Bladen Off Road Christmas Tournament at West Bladen

A huge performance from Malakhi Daniels sent the Scorpions into the semifinals. 

Daniels led all scorers with 29 points, including 13 in the first quarter. 

North Brunswick (6-5) also got 10 points from Terry Hood. The Scorpions will face Pamlico at 8 p.m. Thursday.

No. 2 Laney 63, Whiteville 46

First round Bladen Off Road Christmas Tournament at West Bladen

Four Buccaneers reached double figures, led by 18 points from Khalil Genwright.

Laney (11-0) also got 16 points and eight rebounds from Jarrod Vaughn as well as 11 points from Quin’sier Waddell. Josh Helms finished with 10 points.

With the win, the Buccaneers advanced to the semifinals. They will take on St. Pauls on Thursday at 6 p.m.

No. 5 Trask 59, Wallace-Rose Hill 56

Semifinals ML Carr Invitational at Wallace-Rose Hill

Jamiel Davis and Sherrod Henderson each scored 15 points in the hard-fought victory. 

Trask (7-2) trailed 31-30 at halftime before taking a slim 46-43 lead into the fourth quarter.

Myron Mckoy added 12 points and Isaac Turner scored seven for the Titans, who will play New Bern in the championship game Thursday at 8:30 p.m.

New Bern 57, No. 8 Coastal Christian 40

Semifinals ML Carr Invitational at Wallace-Rose Hill

Aidan Davies and Kamil Harrison combined for 27 points, but the Centurions couldn’t dig out of an early hole.

Coastal Christian (7-7) trailed 20-3 after the opening quarter and 26-12 at halftime.

Davies led all scorers with 16 points, while Harrison chipped in 11.

The Centurions will play host Wallace-Rose Hill in the third-place game at 7 p.m. Thursday.
