GIRLS BASKETBALL

No. 14 Wilmington Christian Academy 60, Southeastern Christian Academy 16

The Patriots scored 29 points in the opening eight minutes and continued to pull away in a lopsided home win.

Kaylie Naki led all scorers with 14 points, including 12 in the first quarter. Katelyn McCurray also reached double figures with 10 points.

WCA (12-9) got scoring contributions from nine players. Hannah Pollard chipped in nine points, while Emily Bloom finished with eight.

BOYS SWIMMING

NCISAA Division II State Championship at Greensboro Aquatic Center

Cape Fear Academy senior Lane Durham earned top-five finishes in all four events he swam to help the Hurricanes place sixth as a team.

Durham was third in the 50 freestyle (22.00) and 100 freestyle (47.66). Both were season-best times.

He also anchored the fourth-place 400 freestyle relay, which had a time of 3:35.12. Joining Durham were Owen Cannon, Max Lewis and Ray McDonald.

Durham, McDonald, Williams and Owen Cannon were fifth in the 200 freestyle relay (1:33.54).

Lewis had a pair of strong performances in his individual events, finishing third in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.10) and eighth in the 200 IM (2:15.39).

The 200 medley relay team of Christian Miller (backstroke), Lewis (breaststroke), Garrett Ellison (butterfly) and Jace Williams (freestyle) placed 10th in 1:57.64.

GIRLS SWIMMING

NCISAA Division II State Championship at Greensboro Aquatic Center

Cape Fear Academy was ninth in the team standings thanks to a handful of top-10 finishes.

In her final high school meet, senior Sara Paige Harvey placed 10th in both the 100 backstroke (1:07.14) and 100 butterfly (1:08.56).

Kaitlyn Kemp’s time of 2:13.69 in the 200 freestyle was good enough for ninth. Saunders Harvey also had a ninth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:19.70).

The 200 freestyle relay team of Kemp, Pennie Utnage, Bentley Winslett and Liza Wells was eighth with a time of 1:55.12.

Winslett (backstroke), Saunders Harvey (breaststroke), Sara Paige Harvey (butterfly) and Maura Stickle (freestyle) teamed up for a ninth-place finish in the 200 medley relay (2:12.95).

Results for the 400 freestyle weren’t published, but CFA was seeded sixth.
