Cape Fear Academy 59, Coastal Christian 31

Three Hurricanes reached double figures in the road victory that sealed a third consecutive Coastal Rivers Conference regular season title.

Junior Elena Crvendakic led all scorers with 19 points, including 11 in the second half. Chloe Kernan added 12 points and Jay Washington finished with 11.

CFA (16-7, 5-0) has now won 19 consecutive conference games dating back to the 2017-18 season. They have also won eight straight against Coastal Christian (9-9, 3-2.)

The Hurricanes ended the first half on a 17-4 run to take a 29-9 lead into the locker room.

An 18-1 run spanning the end of the third and beginning of the fourth quarters increased the advantage to 55-19 with 4:20 to play.

Brooke Barton led the Centurions with 14 points. 

CFA returns home to take on Fayetteville Academy on Friday at 5:45 p.m. Coastal Christian plays at Harrells Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Ashley 49, Hoggard 33

Saniya Rivers went 9 of 10 from the free throw line and the Screaming Eagles earned a hard-fought road win to remain unbeaten in the Mideastern Conference. 

Rivers scored eight points in the second quarter to send Ashley (14-4, 9-0 Mideastern) into the halftime locker room up 20-15. She added 11 rebounds, eight steals and six assists.

The Screaming Eagles outscored the Vikings 29-18 over the final 16 minutes. Lexi Hinson chipped in seven points, nine rebounds and steals and Mia Seemadray finished with seven points and three steals.

Madeline Elgart led Hoggard (15-4, 6-3) with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Icess Tresvik added eight points, eight steals and six rebounds.

Next up for Ashley is a home game against East Duplin on Wednesday night at 6. The Vikings host West Brunswick on Friday at 6 p.m.

Laney 52, West Brunswick 40

Regan Stewart scored 10 straight points to end the third quarter to help the Buccaneers build a 16-point lead and they held on for the road victory.

Stewart connected on a pair of 3-pointers and tied for a game-high with 16 points. Jackie Hill added 10 points and Kennedy Martin chipped in eight. Laney (16-2, 8-1 Mideastern), which plays at New Hanover at 6 p.m. Friday, got scoring contributions from nine players.

West Brunswick (5-14, 2-7) got 16 points from Zymira Siler and eight from Alexis Dombrowski. They visit Hoggard on Friday night at 6.

New Hanover 69, Topsail 55

The Wildcats avenged an earlier-season loss behind a stellar performance from guard Andrehya Shuford.

The sophomore scored a game-high 28 points and added nine steals. New Hanover (6-10, 4-5 Mideastern) also got a double-double of 11 points and 14 rebounds from Destiny Newkirk as well as 10 points, six rebounds and six assists from Via Jennings.

Next up for the Wildcats is a home game against Laney on Friday at 6 p.m. 

Topsail (12-7, 3-6) got double-doubles from Sydney Hartgrove (26 points, 11 rebounds and four steals) and Julia Sullivan (11 points, 15 rebounds and three steals). Lilah Johnson also added eight points, six rebounds and five assists, while Bella Kross finished with seven points, eight rebounds and five assists. 

The Pirates visit South Brunswick at 6 p.m. Friday.

North Brunswick 31, South Brunswick 29

The Scorpions swept the season series with another two-point victory over their rival to remain tied with New Hanover for the top 3A spot in the Mideastern Conference.

Lydia Bradshaw led all scorers with 12 points. North Brunswick (9-7, 4-5 Mideastern), which plays at Ashley at 6 p.m. Friday, also got nine points from Laney Scoggins. They won the first matchup 46-44 in double overtime.

South Brunswick (3-16, 0-9), which hosts Topsail on Friday night at 6, nearly battled back from a 12-0 deficit after the opening quarter. Nija Bryant scored a team-best eight points.

Wilmington Christian Academy 30, Raleigh Christian Academy 25

Sophomore forward Rachel Bielaski scored the final four points of the game to help the Patriots snap a 10-game losing streak.

Bielaski tied for a game-high with 17 points. WCA (2-13, 2-5) hosts Greenville Christian Academy on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Trask 49, Pender 34

The Titans outscored their rival 27-13 in the second half to pull away and split the season series.

No other information was provided.

Trask (10-6, 5-4 Coastal 8) hosts East Carteret at 6 p.m. Friday.

Pender (5-9, 4-5) travels to Richlands at 6 p.m. Friday.

CFA (17-7, 5-0 Coastal Rivers) hosts Fayetteville Academy at 7:15 p.m. Friday.

Coastal Christian (9-13, 1-4) plays at Harrells Christian Academy on Friday at 7 p.m.

Laney 57, West Brunswick 47

Reece Edwards and Justin Clayton each scored 13 points in the second half and the Buccaneers rallied from a 16-point halftime deficit to pick up a key road win that kept them alive for the Mideastern Conference title.

Laney (13-5, 6-3 Mideastern) trailed 30-16 at the half before outscoring West Brunswick (14-5, 6-3) 22-6 in the third quarter to take the lead.

Clayton led the way with 20 points and Edwards finished with 15. The Buccaneers, who play at New Hanover on Friday night at 7:30, also got 11 points from Lawrence Newkirk.

The Trojans got a game-high 24 points from Jadyn Parker, who went 12 of 16 from the free throw line. They travel to Hoggard at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Hoggard 57, Ashley 42

The Vikings outscored their county rival 20-4 in the second quarter to build a comfortable lead they were able to maintain throughout the second half.

Sabastian Haidera hit a pair of free throws in the fourth quarter to give Hoggard (15-4, 8-1 Mideastern) its largest lead of the night at 52-29.

Brady Rankin led all scorers with 11 points and Kris Gibbs added 10 in the victory. Hoggard, which hosts West Brunswick at 7:30 p.m. Friday, had 10 players score.

Ashley (9-7, 3-6) was led by Robbie Helmus, who finished with nine points. Mikhail Pocknett chipped in eight. The Screaming Eagles host East Duplin on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

New Hanover 69, Topsail 56

A double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds from Mikai Stanley helped the Wildcats earn the season sweep and remain tied with Hoggard atop the Mideastern Conference standings.

New Hanover (13-5, 8-1 Mideastern) also got 19 points and six rebounds from Abrahm Driver and 15 points and five assists from Dee Barnett. Maleec Myers chipped in eight points and seven assists.

The Wildcats host Laney on Friday at 7:3o p.m. Topsail (9-9, 3-6) plays at South Brunswick at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

North Brunswick 50, South Brunswick 45

Devonte Beatty led all scorers with 21 points to help the Scorpions end a six-game losing steak.

North Brunswick (4-14, 1-8) attempted 23 more free throws than its rival. They went 21 of 40 from the charity stripe, while South Brunswick (6-13, 1-8) finished 10 of 17.

Nine Scorpions reached the scoring column. Elijah Elwood added eight points and Demond Perry finished with seven.

The Cougars got 18 points from AJ Rossi and nine from Jordan Jenrette.

Both teams are back in action Friday at 7:30 p.m. North Brunswick welcomes Ashley and South Brunswick hosts Topsail.

Pender 78, Trask 39

Four Patriots reached double figures in the dominant home victory that gave them the season sweep over their rival.

Jaxon Teachy led Pender (12-6, 8-1 Coastal 8) with 18 points and Jakwon Moore added 14 points and seven rebounds. Jajuan finished with 11 points and five assists and Asad Johnson also had 11 points to go along with five steals.

The Patriots play at Richlands at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Trask (8-10, 3-6), which hosts East Carteret on Friday at 7:30 p.m., got eight points a piece from Watson Orr and Kywaun Walker. 

Southeastern Homeschool 86, Goldsboro Homeschool 61

Sophomore guard Brantley Springer went 6 of 7 from 3-point range en route to a team-high 24 points to lead the Cardinals to a home victory.

Springer exploded for 16 points after halftime to help Southeastern Homeschool (8-7, 6-5) pull away. Jayden Johnson scored 12 of his 21 points in the opening half, while Kyler Schoonmaker buried four 3-pointer and finished with 17 points.

The Cardinals host South Wake Homeschool on Friday at 7 p.m.

Wilmington Christian Academy 104, Raleigh Christian Academy 82

Derek Poe poured in 24 points and four other Patriots reached double figures in the high-scoring contest.

WCA (6-13, 4-3) also got 15 points from Bryce Bordeaux and 14 from David Henderson. Caleb Croom and Zach Burk each finished with 12.

The Patriots host Greenville Christian Academy at 7 p.m. Friday.
