Laney 57, New Hanover 35

The Buccaneers opened the game on an 18-0 run to remain unbeaten in the Mideastern Conference.

Freshman Jada Simpson came off the bench to score 15 points, including three 3-pointers. Senior Kennedy Simpson scored 10 of her 14 points in the first half to help Laney (10-1, 3-0 Mideastern) take a 34-9 lead into the locker room.

The Buccaneers, who play at Hoggard on Tuesday at 6 p.m., also got nine points a piece from Jackie Hill and Regan Stewart.

Sophomore Andrehya Shuford led New Hanover (2-6, 0-3) with 17 points. The Wildcats travel to South Brunswick at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Ashley 63, North Brunswick 18

Saniya Rivers scored 21 points to go along with five rebounds, five assists and four steals to lead the Screaming Eagles to a dominant home win.

Ashley (7-4, 3-0 Mideastern) led 31-6 after the first quarter and 41-6 at halftime. Mia Seemadray chipped in 13 points, five rebounds, five steals and four assists and Brynn Little finished with four points, six rebounds and three steals.

The Screaming Eagles welcome Topsail on Tuesday evening at 6, while North Brunswick (7-3, 2-1) hosts West Brunswick on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Hoggard 49, West Brunswick 18

Freshmen Lacy Lovitt and Anya Massey combined to score 25 points as the Vikings went on the road and earned a comfortable victory.

Lovitt led all scorers with 14 points, while Massey added 11 points, six rebounds and three assists. Hoggard (11-2, 2-1 Mideastern) assisted on 14 of its 17 field goals and also came away with 15 steals. They welcome Laney at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

West Brunswick (3-9, 0-3) hosts Socastee, S.C. on Monday night at 6:30 p.m.

Topsail 41, South Brunswick 26

Julia Sullivan knocked down three 3-pointers and scored a game-high 17 points in the win.

The senior also finished with eight rebounds and three steals. Sydney Hartgrove also had a terrific game, finishing with seven points, 10 rebounds and seven assists

Topsail (11-2, 2-1 Mideastern), which plays at Ashley on Tuesday at 6 p.m., led 13-4 after the first quarter. They put the game away by outscoring South Brunswick (3-10, 0-3) 12-4 in the third quarter.

The Cougars host New Hanover at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Trask 54, East Carteret 44

Anisa Lewis scored 16 of her game-high 20 points in the first half to lead the Titans to a road win.

Trask (6-4, 1-2 Coastal 8), which plays at Croatan on Tuesday at 6 p.m., led 29-23 at halftime. Madalyn White buried three 3-pointers and finished with 15 points.

Covenant Day School 51, Cape Fear Academy 46

A 27-point performance that featured a pair of 3-pointers from senior Chloe Kernan wasn’t enough for the Hurricanes.

Kernan scored 10 points in the first quarter to put Cape Fear Academy (10-6) up 18-14, but they were outscored 30-20 in the middle two quarters. 

Sophomore Katie Rudow buried four 3-pointers for her 12 points and Elena Crvendakic chipped in seven for the Hurricanes, who host Carolina Forest, S.C. on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Asheville Christian School 70, Coastal Christian 22

Maya Insley scored nine points and added four steals and Brooke Barton finished with five points and 10 rebounds in the road loss.

Coastal Christian (5-5) will try to get back in the win column at Carolina Day School on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Harrells Christian Academy 36, Wilmington Christian Academy 29

Kyra Rickard led the Patriots with 12 points in the road loss.

WCA (1-7), which travels to Hilltop Christian Academy on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., also got six points from Bella Davis.

Richlands 45, Pender 41

The Patriots suffered a home loss despite getting 24 points from Tyanna Holmes. 

Sonti Robinson added seven points for Pender (2-4, 2-1 Coastal 8), which travels to Wallace-Rose Hill on Saturday night at 5.

New Hanover 50, Laney 44

New Hanover (7-3, 3-0 Mideastern) travels to South Brunswick at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Laney (7-4, 1-2) plays at Hoggard on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Hoggard 53, West Brunswick 40

The Vikings outscored the Trojans 27-17 over the final 16 minutes to pull away for the road win.

Cameron Blanks and Brady Rankin each made a pair of 3-pointers and combined to go 11 of 13 from the free throw line for 27 points.

Rankin tied for a game high with 15 points and Blanks added 12. Jackson Massey also added eight points for Hoggard (10-2, 3-0 Mideastern), which hosts Laney on Tuesday night at 7:30.

West Brunswick (9-3, 1-2), which visits North Brunswick at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, got 15 points a piece from Jadyn Parker and Christian Williams.

Ashley 60, North Brunswick 50

Thanks to a game-high 18 points from sophomore Mikhail Pocknett, the Screaming Eagles were able to pick up their first Mideastern Conference victory of the season.

Ashley (5-3, 1-2) built a 26-16 halftime lead and extended it to 39-26 after three quarters. Khalil Jones scored seven of his 11 points in the fourth quarter and Bryon Byers added nine for the Screaming Eagles, who host Topsail on Tuesday night at 7:30.

North Brunswick (3-9, 0-3), which welcomes West Brunswick at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, got 12 points from Tate Davis and 10 from Devonte Beatty. 

Topsail 52, South Brunswick 42

Three players reached double figures in the home victory for the Pirates.

Senior Derek Gardner led all scorers with 14 points, while Jamison Long and Gavin Ellis each added 10 for Topsail (8-4, 2-1 Mideastern), which travels to Ashley on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

AJ Rossi scored 13 points and Miguel Miller finished with 11 to pace South Brunswick (6-6, 1-2). The Cougars host New Hanover on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Cape Fear Academy 63, Covenant Day School 47

The Hurricanes pulled away by outscoring the visitors 26-16 over the final eight minutes.

Senior point guard Emmanuel Bonsu had a big night, finishing with a game-high 21 points. Ivan Misic added 17 points and Georges Lefebvre chipped in eight.

Cape Fear Academy (11-7) went 18-for-24 from the free throw line. They host Carolina Forest, S.C. on Tuesday night at 7:30.

Pender 75, Richlands 16

The Patriots cruised to a mercy-rule victory behind a balanced scoring effort that was led by Jajuan Carr.

The senior scored 16 points to go along with four rebounds, two steals and two blocks. Jakwon Moore added 13 points and eight rebounds and Mike Armstrong finished with 11 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Pender (6-4, 4-0 Coastal 8), which travels to Wallace-Rose Hill for a 6:30 p.m. start on Saturday, also got seven points and two steals from Kyrese Dye as well as six points a piece from Asad Johnson, Josef Fullwood and Jaxson Teachey.

Asheville Christian School 69, Coastal Christian 46

Chazz Banks scored 21 points and Luke Davenport hit three 3-pointers en route to 15 points, but the Centurions suffered a road loss.

Coastal Christian (8-6), which played without leading scorer Skyler Davies (broken foot), trailed 42-22 at halftime. They play at Carolina Day at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

Harrells Christian Academy 65, Wilmington Christian Academy 61 (OT)

Three Patriots reached double figures, led by 16 points from Greg Bowden, in the hard-fought loss.

Harold Boyd and Derek Poe each added 13 points and combined to make seven of WCA’s (3-9) nine 3-pointers. The Patriots travel to Hilltop Christian Academy on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

East Carteret 88, Trask 59

The Titans hit six 3-pointers in the road defeat.

Robert Pridgen led the way with 14 points, while Watson Orr added 10 for Trask (6-5, 1-2 Coastal 8), which trailed 47-32 at halftime.

Next up for the Titans is a road game at Croatan at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
