COASTAL PREPS THREE STARS OF THE NIGHT

BASEBALL

No. 1 Hoggard 4, Purnell Swett 0

Junior southpaw Jake Jeffrey threw a gem, scattering one hit with 10 strikeouts and no walks in six scoreless innings. 

Of the 71 pitches Jeffrey throw, 53 went for strikes. He also worked three walks at the plate, stole a base and scored the final run in the top of the sixth inning.

Preston Smith finished 2-for-3 with a stolen base and two runs scored. Aiden McBride pitched a scoreless seventh inning.

Hoggard (10-1) returns to Mideastern Conference play at home against Topsail at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. 

BOYS LACROSSE

Cape Fear Academy 12, North Cross (Va.) 4

A remarkable 20-save performance from senior goalie Kaleb Belle gave the Hurricanes their second victory in as many days. 

CFA (4-2) was once again led offensively by Loyola signee Kyle McCarthy, who scored seven goals. Luis Gonzalez and Nick Spinola chipped in two goals a piece, while Jacob Borstad added one goal and one assist. 

Next up is a home game against North Raleigh Christian Academy on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

GIRLS SOCCER

Charlotte Latin 3, No. 5 Cape Fear Academy 0

The Hurricanes fell at home against the defending NCISAA 4A state champions, but freshman goalkeeper Naomi Shanewise finished with 15 saves.

Charlotte Latin scored what turned out to be the game winner in the fourth minute and led 2-0 at halftime. 

A home match against Southeastern Homeschool on April 4 at 4:30 awaits CFA (6-1-0).
