Laney proved why it has one of the deepest lineups in the state by finishing with nine champions and cruising to the team title in the field of 16 teams.

The Buccaneers scored a remarkable 271 points by claiming a total of 38 victories, including 37 which gave the team bonus points (28 pins, 2 injury defaults, 1 forfeit and 6 major decisions).

Union Pines was the runner-up with 126.5 points, while Corinth Holders finished third with 111.5 points.

Senior 195 pounder Devon Bell spent the least amount of time on the mat. He earned three first period pins that totaled 3:36, including a 54 second fall in the championship bout. 

Lucas Cotto Jr. needed only 3:37 to pin his three opponents at 120.

Mark Samuel (126) and Corey Pollock (285) also record three pins en route to their titles.

Noah Thomas (145) and Alex Hopper (170) wrestled four times and all of them ended with pins. Hopper was only on the mat for a total of 5:05.

Laney’s other champions were: Jayden Harrison (injury default and three pins at 138), Tristan Cotto (two major decisions and pin at 152) and Trystan Richardson (forfeit, major decision and two pins at 220). 

Every Buccaneer recorded at least one victory. They didn’t enter a competitor at 182.

Owen Harshbarger was the runner-up at 160 and Grant Bradshaw placed fourth at 132.
