4A East Regional

at Landfall (Par 72)

Hoggard claimed the team title by 11 strokes over Millbrook with a total of 246.

Sophomore Ellie Hildreth shot a 4-over-par 76 to finish as the runner-up. The Vikings also counted an 83 from Grace Caudill and an 87 from Kayla Statile.

Hildreth was 5-over after nine holes before shooting 1-under on the back side. 

Topsail also qualified for next week’s 4A State Championship by finishing third with a 258. They bested Cardinal Gibbons by two strokes.

The Pirates counted an 82 from Eliza Fogleman, an 87 from Morgan Augustine and an 89 from Lillian Swann. 

Three other area participants qualified for states as individuals. Laney’s Brielle Sorenson shot 85, while teammate Ella Ronner finished with an 88. Sarah Enright of Ashley also carded an 85.

After dropping the opening set, the Vikings regrouped and won the next three to advance to Wednesday’s championship match at top-seeded Ashley.

Senior middle Katie Ramsland hit .429 with 10 kills and four blocks. Junior middle Winn Godier also had a big match by hitting .714 with 10 kills.

Hoggard (18-4) got 17 digs from Chloe Maughan and 11 from Nevaeh Robinson. Setters Megan Kelly and Ella Wadsworth combined for 36 assists.

The tight third set featured six ties and seven lead changes. Jenny Garner’s overpass kill ended it.

Laney (19-4) led 12-11 in the fourth set before the Vikings went on a 7-1 run that was capped by another overpass kill from Godier.

Ramsland ended the match with her final kill.

The Buccaneers got a match-high 15 kills from Isabel Sandstrum. Setter Alleigh Russ handed out 15 assists.

Semifinals Mideastern Conference Tournament

A double-double of 18 assists and 15 digs from junior Marlee Cook gave the Screaming Eagles a home victory.

The teams split a pair of regular season meetings, with each team winning in three sets on their home court. 

With the win, Ashley (18-6) advanced to the championship match. They will host No. 2 Hoggard at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Annalyse Askew had a team-high 12 kills to go along with eight digs and three aces, while Bella Cook put down eight kills.

New Hanover (14-7) was led by Ali Blackwell’s 14 kills, five digs and two aces. Sloane Woolwine had a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs, while Lillee Moore finished with 28 assists and seven digs.

Wilmington Christian Academy 3, Liberty Christian Academy 0

The Patriots wrapped up the regular season with a dominant home win thanks to 13 aces from six players.

Caroline Prease served a team-high four aces to go along with 15 digs and nine kills. WCA (18-6, 9-1 NCCSA 2A District 4) also got 18 kills, 12 digs and two aces from Kenleigh Todd.

Georgia Taydus finished with 25 assists and five digs, while Sarah Garner chipped in 16 digs and two aces.

BOYS SOCCER

Wilmington Christian Academy 4, Liberty Christian Academy 1

Hayden Plotner and Mason Tawes both finished with two goals and one assist in the home win that capped the regular season.

WCA (14-4-1, 10-0 NCCSA 2A District 4) led 1-0 at halftime. Tiruneh Giammarino dished out a pair of assists. 

Goalkeeper Calloway Upchurch made four saves.

Hoggard 5, Topsail 2

The Vikings scored five unanswered goals to rally for a road victory and set up a huge showdown with Laney on Thursday.

Seniors Stone Murrill and Martin Rivers scored twice and dished out an assist. Clark Beery scored Hoggard’s (16-1-1, 8-1-1 Mideastern) first goal in the 17th minute.

Kenan Leber handed out a pair of assists. 

Tanner Kelly and James Manning found the back of the net in the first 15 minutes of the contest for Topsail (11-5-2, 6-4-1), which hosts Ashley at 6 p.m. Thursday.

New Hanover 5, South Brunswick 1

John Franck’s third hat trick of the season lifted the Wildcats on the road.

New Hanover (13-3-1, 8-2-1) also got a goal a piece from Carson Etters and Waller Hicks.

Jacobi Burroughs, Rowan Lian, Alexander Solis and Joca Trecco had the assists.

Both teams are back in action Thursday at 6 p.m. The Wildcats play at West Brunswick, while South Brunswick (4-9, 2-9) travels to rival North Brunswick.

Ashley 9, West Brunswick 0

Seniors Leo Baggie, Jonathan Glickauf and Harold Macias all put home a pair of goals in the mercy-rule victory.

Macias and Caden Pierce both finished with three assists, while Alberto Garzon had two.

Ashley (11-7-1, 5-5-1 Mideastern) plays at Topsail on Thursday at 6 p.m. West Brunswick (2-14-1, 0-10) welcomes New Hanover at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Laney 7, North Brunswick 0

Alex Walker scored twice and added an assist, and fellow senior Jackson Minneci finished with one goal and three assists in the lopsided win.

Laney (16-1-1, 10-1 Mideastern) built a 4-0 halftime lead. Cole George, Matthew Travaglia and Addison Woodcock had the other goals. 

Sidney Jordan and Benton Tucker both dished out one assist. Goalkeepers TJ Webb and Vaughn Wirsen split time and combined to make three saves to preserve the shutout.

Next up for the Buccaneers is a road match at Hoggard on Thursday night at 6. North Brunswick (7-10, 2-9) returns home to take on South Brunswick at 6 p.m. Thursday.
