The Wildcats forced four turnovers and allowed only 92 total yards in the hard-fought home victory that gave them the Mideastern Conference title.

Sean Worthy recovered a muffed punt in the end zone early in the third quarter to increase New Hanover’s (9-1, 7-0) lead to 10-0.

Senior kicker Ben Novotny drilled a 41-yard field to open the scoring. Hoggard (7-3, 5-2) tried a fake punt on the opening series of the game, but didn’t convert and the Wildcats capitalized on the great field position.

The Vikings also scored on a special teams turnover. A high snap on a punt went over Novotny’s head and Blake Edwards was able to recover the ball in the end zone with 29 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
