VOLLEYBALL

Hoggard 3, Pender 0

Ammie Zaragoza and Caroline Johnson both had five kills to help the Vikings cruise to a home victory for the second straight night.

Hoggard (2-3) hit .313 as a team by putting down 25 kills on 48 attempts with 10 errors.

Winn Godier chipped in four kills and four aces, while fellow sophomore Jenny Garner also had four kills. Nevaeh Robinson served four of the team’s 16 aces. 

Katie Ramsland ended the opening set with a kill from the middle. She had three on the night. 

The second set finished on a kill from Johnson. Emma Ham’s only kill of the match completed the sweep.

The Vikings play at Topsail on Thursday night at 6. Pender (0-4) hosts Hoggard next Wednesday at 6 p.m.

GIRLS TENNIS

Laney 8, North Brunswick 1

Laurryen Lennon (No. 5) and Ava Broadwell (No. 6) both picked up 6-0, 6-0 singles victories to help the Buccaneers roll to their second win in as many days.

Laney (3-0, 3-0 Mideastern) also got singles victories from Airlie Buchter (6-3, 6-2 at No. 1), Charlotte Balkcum (6-1, 6-0 at No. 3) and Hailey Russell (6-1, 6-2 at No. 4).

Buchter and Lennon didn’t drop a game at No. 2 doubles. Russell and Lily Golla cruised to an 8-1 win at No. 3, while Balkcum and Mary Scott Madigan completed the doubles sweep by winning 8-5 at No. 1.

North Brunswick’s (0-3, 0-2) long victory came by a 6-4, 6-1 score at No. 2 singles from Simone Samuel.

The Buccaneers visit West Brunswick on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The Scorpions don’t play again until Sept. 8 at Topsail.

BOYS SOCCER

East Bladen 1, West Brunswick 0

The visiting Eagles score the game’s only goal in the first half.

West Brunswick (1-2) will be back in action Tuesday night at 6 at White Oak.
