COASTAL PREPS THREE STARS OF THE NIGHT

The Centurions completed the season sweep in comfortable fashion.

Setter Megan McConekey finished with 17 assists, four digs and two kills. Elsa Southerland and Reagan Mintz tied for a team-high with seven kills.

Coastal Christian (14-4) also got eight assists, five kills and four digs from Caroline Meehan as well as eight digs from libero Sam Harrell.

Kaitlin Goggin put down five kills for New Hanover (4-7). Lillee Moore narrowly missed out on a double-double by finishing with 11 assists and nine digs. 

The Centurions host Greenfield School on Thursday at 5:45 p.m. The Wildcats visit Hoggard on Thursday night at 6.

No. 3 Topsail 3, No. 10 South Brunswick 0

From Tuesday

Junior Ryan Lambert tied her career high with 15 kills to go along with nine digs in the three-set victory.

Topsail (8-3, 4-1 Mideastern) served 12 aces, including three a piece from Lambert, Nelly-Grace Keziah and Trinity Mummaw.

Keziah chipped in 16 assists and six digs, while Mummaw led the team with 10 digs. 

Hannah Losey dished out 18 assists and added eight digs. Sadie Schmuker finished with eight kills and eight digs.

The Pirates travel to Laney at 6 p.m. Thursday. South Brunswick (2-6, 1-3) plays at West Brunswick on Thursday at 6 p.m.

BOYS SOCCER

No. 9 Pender 2, No. 10 East Bladen 1

Sophomore Irving Garcia scored the game-winning goal in the 52nd minute to keep the Patriots unbeaten in Waccamaw Conference play.

Garcia’s goal came off an assist from Bryan Roblero.

East Bladen opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, but Pender (4-3, 3-0) answered 16 seconds later when DeShawn Alderman found the back of the net off an assist from Elvis Hernandez.

Thunderstorms in the area forced the match to be called with 19 minutes remaining.

Pender travels to West Bladen for a nonconference match at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

GIRLS TENNIS

Topsail 7, South Brunswick 2

From Tuesday

The Pirates claimed five of six singles matches and then added two doubles points to secure the victory.

Junior Karli Hartman held on for a thrilling 9-8(4) win at No. 1 singles. Hartman and Kendall Mills also had a 9-8(4) victory at No. 1 doubles.

Topsail’s (4-2, 3-2 Mideastern) other singles points came from Mills (8-1 at No. 2), Cayden Persichetti (8-5 at No. 3), Reed Garofano (8-1 at No. 4) and Avery White (8-3 at No. 6).

Persichetti and Garofano teamed up for an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles.

South Brunswick’s (4-5, 2-4) victories came from Ashley Subach (8-2 at No. 5 singles) and Subach/Marie Dean (8-5 at No. 3 doubles).

Both teams play at 4 p.m. Thursday. The Pirates host Laney, while the Cougars visit West Brunswick.

West Brunswick 7, North Brunswick 2

From Tuesday

Hannah Underwood cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles to help the Trojans down their county rival.

West Brunswick (1-3, 1-3 Mideastern) clinched the match after picking up five points in singles. The other victories came from Hannah Cumbee (6-2, 6-3 at No. 1), Sydney Beliveau (6-2, 6-2 at No. 2), Dakota Murray (6-2, 6-2 at No. 4) and Grace Watson (6-2, 6-1 at No. 5).

Cumbee and Beliveau didn’t lose a game at No. 1 doubles. Taylor Hughes and Paige Levine teamed up for an 8-5 win at No. 3.

The Trojans welcome South Brunswick on Thursday at 4 p.m. North Brunswick (0-6, 0-5) hosts Ashley at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Coastal Christian 5, Epiphany School 4

From Tuesday

A pair of 8-1 doubles wins from the teams of Avery Alexander/Kiarra Haasbroek (No. 2) and Evie Munroe/MC Shearin (No. 3) sealed a hard-fought victory.

Coastal Christian (8-1, 2-0 CPIC) got singles points from Alexander (9-8 at No. 6), Munroe (8-3 at No. 5) and Audrey Pate (9-7 at No. 3).

Next up is a home match against Cape Fear Academy on Thursday at 4 p.m.
