COASTAL PREPS THREE STARS OF THE NIGHT

FOOTBALL

No. 13 Pender 36, No. 15 East Columbus 0

The Patriots ran their winning streak in the series to 10 games with a shutout victory on the road.

Jassiah Hill scored a pair of touchdowns. Jeremiah Johnson, Mark Rawls and Zeke Williams also found the end zone for Pender (3-1, 1-0 Waccamaw).

Four of the 10 wins during the streak have come via shutout. East Columbus (1-4, 0-1) last won a game in the series on Oct. 1, 2004 by a score of 8-6.

Both teams return to action Friday at 7:30 p.m. The Patriots visit South Columbus, while the Gators travel to East Bladen.

GIRLS GOLF

Mideastern Conference match at Castle Bay (Par 72)

Hoggard cruised to its most lopsided victory of the season by getting four scores of 84 or better. 

Junior Ellie Hildreth shot a 2-over-par 74 to earn medalist honors for the third straight match. She topped South Brunswick’s Jillian Fatkin by one stroke. Both players have earned top-three finishes in all four Mideastern Conference matches. 

The Vikings’ other counting scores were a 77 from Grace Caudill (third place) and an 82 from Kayla Statile (fifth place). Madison Fankboner also had an outstanding round by carding an 84 to finish in sixth place.

Sarah Enright of Ashley placed fourth with a 79.

GIRLS TENNIS

New Hanover 8, Cape Fear Academy 1

The unbeaten Wildcats dropped only one court to secure a road victory.

Elle Harmon and Elizabeth Sifly teamed up for an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles. New Hanover (11-0) also got points from the teams of Sophia Catino/Hanna Davis (8-4 at No. 1) and Lucy Dimock/Caroline Morrison (9-8 at No. 2).

Catino won the opening set 6-1 at No. 1 singles before her opponent, Taylor Garriott, was forced to retire.

The other victories for the Wildcats came from Davis (6-2, 6-1 at No. 2), Harmon (6-2, 6-3 at No. 4), Morrison (6-3, 6-1 at No. 5) and Sifly (6-4, 6-2 at No. 6).

Liza Wells had a score of 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 for CFA’s (6-1) lone point. 

Next up for the Wildcats is a home doubleheader against West Brunswick on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The Hurricanes welcome Greenfield School at 4 p.m. Tuesday. 

VOLLEYBALL

No. 7 Cape Fear Academy 3, Grace Christian 2

(25-17, 22-25, 25-15, 22-25, 15-4)

Senior outside hitters Carolina Bariglio and Maggie Clucas combined to put down 44 kills to help the Hurricanes earn a hard-fought home win.

Bariglio finished with a team-high 24 kills to go along with 24 digs and five aces. Clucas added 20 kills, 23 digs, four aces and one block.

CFA (12-5) also got 23 assists and five aces from Cora Bariglio as well as 24 assists from fellow setter Camden Sheally.

Megan Connaughton had 12 digs and four kills, while Mary Ryan Campbell chipped in eight digs and five kills.

The Hurricanes travel to Wayne Christian School on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
