GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Meet at Long Leaf Park

Sophomore Zoe Bos of Coastal Christian crossed the finish line in 20:17.78 to earn a 30-second victory.

The Centurions had four of the top five finishers to earn the team victory with 21 points. Cape Fear Academy finished with 36 points.

Ava Basler was third in 21:52.35, Madeline Fischer was fourth in 22:27.82 and Kaitlyn Harrison finished fifth with a time of 22:29.33. The other Centurion to score points was Marissa Short (10th in 24:11.31).

The Hurricanes got a second-place finish from Avery Bishop, who crossed the finish line in 20:47.59. Also scoring points for CFA were: Avery Block (seventh in 22:59.48), Fraley Kelley (eighth in 22:59.71), Cameron Tait (12th in 24:45.31) and Caroline Houston (14th in 25:59.10).

Southeastern Homeschool’s three runners all finished inside the top 15. Joy Shaver was sixth in 22:41.04, Elizabeth Teeters was ninth in 24:09.04 and Mckaylah Herndeen finished 13th in 25:39.45.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Coastal Christian had eight of the top 10 finishers, including winner Vince Bottiglier (17:20.12) to cruise to the victory.

The Centurions finished with 23 points, while CFA had 48 and Southeastern Homeschool scored 71.

Freshman Jack Sterrett continued his impressive start to the season by finishing fourth with a time of 17:40.87. Coastal Christian also got points from Nicholas Scrocco (fifth in 17:43.05), Caleb Cottle (sixth in 17:45.84) and Michael Cooke (seventh in 17:50.07).

Cape Fear Academy’s Tanner Macpherson was the runner-up after completing the course in 17:26.28. Southeastern Homechool’s Cooper Henry was third with a time of 17:28.54.

VOLLEYBALL

Cape Fear Academy 3, Fayetteville Academy 1

(22-25, 25-17, 25-13, 17-25, 15-11)

Ali Blackwell had a big night, finishing with 25 kills, 19 digs and three aces to give the Hurricanes their first victory.

Katie Rudow dished out 29 assists to go along with a pair of aces and blocks, while Kathryn Emmart finished with 24 digs, four aces and three kills.

CFA (1-2, 1-0 Coastal Rivers) welcomes Southeastern Homeschool at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday.

Liberty Christian 3, Wilmington Christian Academy 0

The Patriots saw their four-match winning streak come to an end despite a strong performance of 12 kills and three digs from senior Kyra Rickard.

Setter Lauren Longbottom finished with 20 assists for WCA (4-2, 4-1). Kenleigh Todd chipped in seven kills, three digs and two aces, while Ella Jordan had eight digs, four kills and three aces.

Next up for the Patriots is a road match at Wilson Christian Academy on October 2 at 6 p.m.

Southeastern Homeschool 3, Living Water Christian 0

(25-13, 25-14, 25-19)

The Cardinals remained unbeaten with a road sweep. 

Individual statistics weren’t available at the time of publishing.

Southeastern Homeschool (3-0) plays at CFA on Thursday at 5:45 p.m.

Matthew Iandoli scored off an assist from Ethan Barber in the 88th minute, but the Cardinals weren’t able to get the equalizer in the final two minutes.

Southeastern Homeschool (1-5) goalkeeper Luke Griffin had 11 saves in his first career action in net. 

The Cardinals host North Wake Homeschool on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

The visitors made a first-half goal hold up to hand WCA its first conference loss of the season.

WCA (4-2, 3-1) goalkeeper Ben Arbogast was terrific, finishing with 16 saves. The Patriots return to action Tuesday at home against Berean Baptist Academy at 4:30 p.m.

GIRLS GOLF

Cape Fear Academy finishes third

Elle Burnette shot a nine-hole score of 40 to finish third individually and help the Hurricanes place third as a team at their season-opening match at Wayne Country Day School.

CFA also counted a 46 from Isabel Bellamy and a 57 from Chloe Adler. Ella Forkin shot 58 and Allison Raible finished with a 61.

The Hurricanes return to action on September 30 at 1 p.m. with an 18-hole road match against O’Neal School.

GIRLS TENNIS

Cape Fear Academy 7, Fayetteville Academy 2

Alex Johnson won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles and Julia Johnston (No. 1) and Liza Wells (No. 2) each dropped only one game to help the Hurricanes remain unbeaten.

CFA (3-0, 1-0 Coastal Rivers) swept the six singles courts and lost only 10 games. Taylor Garriot won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5, while Elle Harmon (No. 3) and Tyler Beacham (No. 4) both won 6-2, 6-1.

Olivia Hollingsworth teamed with Blythe Crocker to earn an 8-5 victory at No. 3 doubles.

The Hurricanes host Fayetteville Academy on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
