Spring 2021 Football Defense Player of the Year: Jaxon King
The Coastal Preps Football Defensive Player of the Year is junior Jaxon King from Hoggard.
Jaxon Accomplishments
Hoggard rolled through the Mideastern Conference thanks to a stout defense that was led by junior safety Jaxon King.
The Vikings won their seven league games by an average of 31.9 points. The defense didn’t allow more than 14 points and had back-to-back shutouts against West Brunswick and Laney.
King finished with 70 tackles, including five for loss. He also had four interceptions, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, two blocked punts and one blocked field goal to lead the Vikings to an 8-1 record and a spot in the second round of the 4AA playoffs.
He got off to a great start by blocking a pair of punts and recovering an onside kick to seal a 19-13 victory over rival New Hanover in the season opener.
He followed that up by finding the end zone in three of the next four games. King returned an interception for a touchdown against Ashley and West Brunswick, and found the end zone on a fumble recovery against North Brunswick.
