VOLLEYBALL

Myrtle Grove 2, Roland-Grise 1 (25-21, 21-25, 15-1)

After splitting a pair of tight sets, the Gators cruised in the race to 15 points to remain unbeaten with a home victory.

Claire Johnson sealed the victory with her 10th ace of the match. Myrtle Grove (4-0) also got six aces, three digs and one kill from Evy Rennecker as well as three aces from Kate Johnson.

Ainsley Bell added one kill and one dig.

Roland-Grise (3-3) was led by Georgia Britt (three aces) and Ella Metzler (two kills).

Murray 2, Williston 0 (25-11, 25-14)

Eighth grader Chloe Norris finished with 11 aces, six kills and two assists and the Falcons had no trouble picking up a road victory.

Norris opened the match with a kill and then reeled off nine straight aces. The advantage grew to 19-2 and a hitting error from Williston (0-6) ended the opening set.

The Tigers led 14-13 in the second set before Murray won the final 12 points, including 11 on the serve of Norah Madre. She finished with six aces and two kills. 

Myrtle Grove 2, Trask 1 (23-25, 28-26, 15-10)

Kate Johnson led the team in aces with four and kills with three and the Gators rallied from a set down to cap a perfect season and claim the New Hanover County championship.

Evy Rennecker chipped in three aces and three digs, while Claire Johnson finished with two aces and one kill. Myrtle Grove (5-0) also got three aces from Ainsley Bell.

The third set was tied at 6-all before the Gators went on a 5-0 run that featured a kill and four errors from Trask (3-3). 

MiKayla Murray served the final point, which also ended with a hitting error from the Bears.

Murray 2, Noble 0 (25-12, 25-17)

Emma Gordon put down a team-high five kills and the Falcons didn’t trail in either set to end the season with a home victory.

Chloe Norris chipped in nine assists, seven aces and three kills for Murray (5-1). She won eight straight service points to put the Falcons on top 9-0 in the opening set. 

An overpass kill from Norris began a 5-0 run that put Murray up 15-7 in the second set.  

Noble concluded the season with a record of 3-2.

BASEBALL

Roland-Grise 4, Myrtle Grove 1

Jake Kinlaw threw a complete game, allowing three hits and one unearned run, to guide the Knights to a home victory.

Kinlaw struck out five batters and finished with 83 pitches. Roland-Grise (3-2) scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to grab the lead for good.

Myrtle Grove (3-2) got one hit a piece from Cole Barnes, Jonah Harker and Aaron Shepard. Drew Potter struck out a pair of batters in his one inning of work out of the bullpen.

Murray 20, Willison 1

Hudson Hauck hit an inside-the-park home run and Landon Gore earned the victory on the mound in the dominant performance.

With the win, Murray improved to 4-1 on the season. Williston fell to 0-5.

Noble 11, Williston 2

The Eagles jumped on top in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back in the comfortable home win.

Noble finished the season with a 5-1 record, while Williston ended at 0-6.

Murray 5, Holly Shelter 1

Coleman Cross earned the win and the Falcons moved closer to the county championship.

Murray moved to 4-1 with the victory, while Holly Shelter ended the season with a 2-4 record.

Myrtle Grove 5, Trask 4

(Played Tuesday)

The Gators ended their season with a hard-fought road victory by collecting five hits to go along with four walks.

Myrtle Grove (4-2) scored three runs in the second inning and tacked on two more in the third.

Jackson Lee picked up the victory by striking out four and allowing only three hits in five innings. Drew Potter earned the save with a perfect bottom of the sixth inning. He got a pair of flyouts and a strikeout.

Trask finished with a 2-4 record.

Murray 3, Roland-Grise 2

Third baseman Grayson Heldreth drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning and the Falcons escaped a bases loaded jam in the top of the sixth.

The win gave Murray (5-1) their first New Hanover County championship since 2009. Noble finished with an identical record, but the Falcons got the edge based on their head-to-head win.

Nate Goins was the winning pitcher.

Roland-Grise (3-3) grabbed a quick 2-0 lead thanks to several walks, but they couldn’t scrape across any more runs.

GIRLS LACROSSE

The Falcons claimed their second New Hanover County championship in three years with another dominant win.

Erin Gricewicz and Kendall Blackburn each put home a pair of goals, while Chase Spinola, Chloe Reginer, Emily Shrewsbury, Leah Bradley, Maya Roseboro, Nadia Kassell, Phoebe Offredo and Quinn Womble also found the back of the net.

Murray (6-0) goalie Rylan Harris made five saves.

The loss dropped Williston to 0-5.

Roland-Grise 14, Myrtle Grove 1

Macey Ciamillo scored a match-high five goals and Helen Brock had a hat trick in the season-ending victory for the Knights.

Roland-Grise (3-2) also got a pair of goals from Ellis Kelly. Jordan DeVoid, Katie Coble, Sloane Spencer and River Meade also scored.

Myrtle Grove slipped to 1-4.

Trask 10, Myrtle Grove 3

Goalie Makenly Horrell stopped five of the eight shots she faced and Tristan Shivers led the offense with six goals to help Trask conclude its season with a win.

Julia Campbell added two goals and one assist, while Layla Carr finished with two assists. Trask (3-3) also got one goal and one assist a piece from Avery Hoey and Avery Lyden.

Anthony Blackburn put home a game-high three goals and six other Falcons found the back of the net in the dominant win.

Peyton Ashley, Cooper Wert, Zac Stalls, Ethan Tribble, Jaxson Smithers and Zach Hall all scored once for Murray (4-1).

Williston fell to 0-5 with the loss.

Trask 2, Myrtle Grove 1 (OT)

Jackson Ussary scored the game-winning goal in the hard-fought season finale for both teams.

Trask’s (4-2) goal in regulation was scored by Jackson Clavadetscher off an assist from Addison Woodcock.

Myrtle Grove finished the season with a 1-4 record.

Noble 13, Williston 1

The Eagles capped an unbeaten season with a lopsided home victory.

Noble (6-0) won the New Hanover County championship by outscoring its opponents 50-12.

With the loss, Williston ended its season with an 0-6 record.

Peyton Ashley had three goals and two assists, while Anthony Blackburn chipped in two goals and two assists for the Falcons.

Goalies Jonathan Bernardo and Clark Marriott preserved the shutout for Murray (5-1). Cooper Wert scored twice and Zac Stalls dished out three assists.

Lawson Bailey, Harris McKoy, Curren English and Will Dittmar each scored once, while Zach Hall handed out two assists. 

Holly Shelter (1-5) goalie Finley Anderson made eight saves.
