2024 Boys Co-Swimmer of the Year: Sean Setzer

Now that the winter sports season has come to a close, it’s time to reveal the All-Coastal Preps teams. Over the next few days, you will get to know more about the players of the year while also seeing who made first and second team in swimming & diving, wrestling and basketball.

For the second consecutive year, the Coastal Preps Boys Co-Swimmer of the Year is senior Sean Setzer from Ashley.

Sean’s Accomplishments

Sean Setzer turned in one of the greatest individual performances in state history in his final high swim school meet.

The UNC signee not only won the 50 and 100 freestyles, he also broke the NCHSAA 4A State Championship meet record in both in the morning prelims and then again in the finals.

Setzer touched the wall in 19.75 in the 50 to become the first 4A swimmer to break the 20-second mark. He had a time of 43.99 in the 100, and was named the meet’s Most Outstanding Swimmer.

In addition to his victories, Setzer swam the opening leg on the second-place 200 freestyle relay team that set a New Hanover County record with a time of 1:23.51. He swam breaststroke in the 200 medley relay to help the Screaming Eagles place ninth.

The senior won three events at both the Mideastern Conference Championship and 4A East Regional.

Setzer had the five fastest 50 and 100 freestyle times in the area. He was also the only area competitor to break the one-minute mark in the 100 breaststroke.
