Eighth grader Isaiah Perry crossed the finish line first with a time of 11:19 to help Murray hold off Roland-Grise for the team victory.

The Falcons finished with 43 points and the Knights had 51. Murray also got top-14 performances from Jacob Galloway (ninth in 11:49), Ryan English (10th in 11:57), Lance Morgan (11th in 12:00), Dylan Park (12th in 12:02), Chris Crouch (13th in 12:10) and Noah Foland (12:21).

Roland-Grise sixth grader Sawyer Harrison was second in 11:31 and teammate Jackson Hughes was third with a time of 11:32.11.

The rest of the top 10 went as follows: Williston’s Colin Egan (fourth in 11:32.66), Williston’s Stephen Mattis (fifth in 11:37), Noble’s Owen Hurley (sixth in 11:45), Noble’s Clark Beery (seventh in 11:46) and Roland-Grise’s Caden McNutt (eighth in 11:47).

Noble was third as a team with 65 points, followed by Williston (98), Holly Shelter (126), Myrtle Grove (180) and Trask (185).

Southeastern Homeschool’s Emmie Backman was the top area finisher, crossing the finish line second in 12:37.31.

St. Mary Catholic School  sixth graders Abbie Hohl (12:43.43) and Catalina Butler (12:59.92) were third and fourth, respectively. St. Mark Catholic School also got a pair of top-10 finishes from Raegan Pickard (fifth in 13:07.27) and Kate Knoblauch (seventh in 13:18.15).

St. Mark was second in the team standings with 52 points. St Mark was third with 65 points and Myrtle Grove Christian was fourth with 88.

Murray cruised to the team victory by placing seven runners in the top 13, including winner Caroline Furbay.

The seventh grader completed the course 12:54 to earn a four-second victory over Roland-Grise sixth grader Danner Harrison. The Falcons’ other top performers were: Holly McKee (sixth in 13:17), Maris Toppin (seventh in 13:21), Anna Benfield (eighth in 13:21.53), Kieran Bradley (10th in 13:58), Maya Roseboro (14:09.55) and Ciero Roseboro (14:09.96).

Murray finished with 32 points and Roland-Grise was second with 70. They were followed by Williston (75), Noble (89), Holly Shelter (133), Trask (159) and Myrtle Grove (188).

The rest of the top 10 went as follows: Roland-Grise’s Sofia Magne (third in 13:05), Noble’s Kathryn McGrath (fourth in 13:11), Williston’s Kalaia Peters (fifth in 13:12) and Williston’s Kateria Peters (ninth in 13:49).

Myrtle Grove Christian scored 43 points to claim the team victory thanks to a pair of top-five finishes from Jack Sterrett (second in 10:12.72) and William Holmes (fifth in 11:05.18).

St. Mary Catholic School eighth grader Alex Walker was fourth in 10:39.35 and teammate Nolan Billings was eighth with a time of 11:12.03. Southeastern Homeschool’s Tristen Roberts (sixth in 11:09.01), Southeastern Homeschool’s Abraham Johnson (seventh in 11:09.67), St. Mark Catholic School’s Elliott Johnston (ninth in 11:21.40) and Myrtle Grove Christian’s Ethan Arnette (10th in 11:26.63) also finished in the top 10.

Southeastern Homeschool was third with 80 points, followed by St. Mark (83) and St. Mary (84).

The Knights secured a hard-fought home victory thanks to a 10-yard touchdown run from Luke Skipper and a late interception from Blake Edwards.

After a scoreless first quarter, Skipper got Roland-Grise (2-0) on the board with 41.5 seconds left in the opening half. He also converted the ensuing 2-point conversion.

Murray (1-1) closed the gap to 8-6 following a 6-yard touchdown run from Caleb Robles, but the Falcons couldn’t convert the 2-point attempt.

With 1:37 left in the game, Edwards intercepted a fourth down pass to seal the win.

Roland-Grise plays at Williston on Wednesday at 4 p.m., while Murray plays Myrtle Grove at Ashley at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Holly Shelter 30, Virgo 8

Ayden Rogers tossed three touchdown passes to help the Hurricanes pick up their first win of the season.

Sean Worthy hauled in two of them and Demetrius Smith caught the other. Holly Shelter (1-1) also got a rushing touchdown and a 2-point conversion from Chris Morton as well as a pair of 2-point conversions from Zayerion Cuttino.

The Hurricanes host Trask on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Virgo (0-2) plays at Noble at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Noble 38, Myrtle Grove 0

Mason Shand had 11 carries for 152 yards and a pair of touchdowns and also caught a 24-yard touchdown pass to lead the Eagles to a dominant victory.

Noble (2-0) finished with 335 yards of total offense and limited Myrtle Grove (1-1) to only 123. Tyjhere Crudup found the end zone twice and finished with 72 rushing yards on five carries.

Defensively, the Eagles forced three turnovers and got five tackles, a pair of sacks and a forced fumble from Cam Griffin. Chase Buscher had a fumble recovery and Aidan Garrett picked off a pass.

Noble welcomes Virgo at 4 p.m. Wednesday, while Myrtle Grove plays Murray at Ashley on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The Falcons bounced back from their first loss of the season in a big way thanks to a seven-strikeout performance from Brooke Kennedy.

Murray (2-1) was led offensively by Reagan Martin, Emi Lee, Ari Little, Abigail Keefe and Eliza Wood.

Macey Ciamillo went 3-for-3 with a walk, triple, home run and five RBI and also struck out four in her two innings in the circle to help the Knights earn the road victory.

Alaina Wayland went 1-for-1 with two walks, a home run and three runs, while Ava Cook was 1-for-1 with a walk, hit by pitch and three runs. Roland-Grise (2-1) also got four strikeouts in two innings of work from Abby Soodek.

Trask 18, Myrtle Grove 2 (4 innings)

The Bears remained unbeaten thanks to a big game from Makenly Horrell, who struck out nine in the circle and also went 2-for-3 with a pair of triples and four RBI at the plate.

Trask (3-0) built a 5-0 lead after the first inning and tacked on six more runs in the second. Jayden Peterson finished 4-for-4 with a double, while Kalli Short, Layla Carr and Brileigh Mathews each had a pair of hits.

It was also the 150th career victory for coach Bradley Rhodes.

Murray 23, Holly Shelter 2 (4 innings)

Vayda LeQuire belted a pair of home runs and Brooke Kennedy had two hits and four RBI to lead the Falcons.

Murray (3-1) also got two hits and three RBI from Emi Lee. Reagan Martin, Kloey Flowers, Aspen Sawyer and Peyton Francis each had multiple hits.

Emerson Lee picked up the victory by striking out five.

Jack Henry James scored a pair of goals to help the Lions remain unbeaten.

St. Mark (7-0) also got a goal a piece from Gavin Smithley, Sam Johnson and Bryce Raley.

St. Mark Catholic School has busy week

The Lions captured the Joe Uniacke Tournament title in Raleigh on Sept. 21 with Marlee Cook earning MVP honors.

On Tuesday, St. Mark picked up a 25-8, 25-10 sweep at Harrells Christian Academy before falling in three sets to Myrtle Grove Christian School a day later.

St. Mary Catholic School splits pair of matches

On Tuesday afternoon, the Lions picked up a 3-1 victory over Southeastern Homeschool. A day later, they fell in three sets to Myrtle Grove Christian.

St. Mark also captured the Bronze Bracket championship at the Joe Uniacke Tournament title in Raleigh on Sept. 21. Sarah Todt was named to the All-Tournament team.
