With the fall high school sports season coming to a close, it’s time to reveal the All-Coastal Preps teams. Over the next week, you will get to know more about the players of the year while also seeing who made first and second team in girls tennis, girls golf, boys cross country, girls cross country, boys soccer and volleyball. Football will be published shortly after the conclusion of the season.

The Coastal Preps Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year is freshman Kaitlyn Obremski from Topsail.

Kaitlyn’s Accomplishments

Topsail freshman Kaitlyn Obremski burst onto the scene in a huge way, opening the season with a dominant victory at the Wilmington Kickoff.

She went on to win five more races, including the Jungle Run, Mideastern Conference Championship and 3A East Regional.

She broke former Laney standout Natalie Tyner’s course record at Hugh MacRae Park by 15 seconds after crossing the finish line in 17:40.16 at the MEC Championship. At the 3A East Regional, Obremski also set a course record at Boyd Lee Park with a time of 17:30.95.

In her first trip to the 3A State Championship, Obremski finished fifth in 18:13.39.

Do you have any superstitions or pre-game rituals?: I always tend to yawn at the starting line of every race.

If you could play another sport professionally, what would it be?: None. I would always stick to cross country.

Who is your biggest role model?: My mom and sister

What hobbies do you have outside of participating in sports?: I like to draw and go to the beach.

What is your dream job?: Professional runner

Are you a morning or night person?: Both

Do you prefer cold or hot weather?: It depends on how I’m feeling. I like both hot and cold weather.
