The New Hanover County Middle School Roundup will be published each Saturday. Results and stats are compiled through emails from coaches and athletic directors. If you don’t see a result from your team, please encourage your coach or AD to start emailing them to tim@coastalpreps.com.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Cape Fear Academy 39, St. Mark Catholic School 20 

SMSL Tournament Final (Played Monday)

A dominant 21-point second quarter gave the Hurricanes an insurmountable 25-15 halftime lead.

Gups Clucas connected on a pair of 3-pointers and scored nine of his 10 points in the quarter. 

CFA (15-0) was led by William Wells, who scored 11 points. Luke Fascher chipped in nine.

Will Cherry finished with a team-best six points for St. Mark.

St. Mark Catholic School 28, Myrtle Grove Christian School 26

SMSL Tournament Final (Played Monday)

The Lions got a combined 15 points from Savannah Hermann and Justine McCague in a thrilling victory to claim the tournament title.

Hermann finished with eight points, while McCague added seven. 

The game was tied at 9 after the opening quarter. Myrtle Grove Christian School held a slim 16-15 halftime lead.

Grace Wertheimer scored a game-high 13 points in the defeat. The Warriors also got 11 points from Elizabeth Sifly.

Noble 19, Williston 6

The Eagles avenged an earlier-season loss by outscoring the Tigers 14-2 in the second half.

Riley Balland led all scorers with six points. Noble (2-5) also got five points from Allie Casey as well as four a piece from Ellis Newman and Viv Skiba.

Ariana Mcphail-McCallister scored four of Williston’s (4-3) six points.

Myrtle Grove 37, Trask 12

Ella Rose scored six of her game-high 11 points in the third quarter as the Gators rolled at home.

Myrtle Grove (4-3), which led 23-8 at halftime, also got nine points from Brielle Archer.

Katie Austin and Edie Zeldin both finished with four points for Trask (2-5).

Murray 58, Holly Shelter 19

(Played Monday)

Six Falcons reached the scoring column, led by Brianna Stanley’s 30 points, in another dominant victory.

Palyn Everhart also reached double figures with 11 points, while Kieran Bradley added nine for Murray (7-0).

With the loss, Holly Shelter fell to 2-4.

Roland-Grise 36, Virgo 12

The Knight had no trouble running their winning streak to four games.

Jakicey Gardner led the way with eight points. Roland-Grise (6-1), which led 24-10 at halftime, also got seven points from Ella Jones.  

Virgo (0-6) was led by a game-high 10 points from sixth grader India Williams.

Myrtle Grove 26, Holly Shelter 20

Brielle Archer and Ella Rose both finished with 10 points in the home victory that moved the Gators into a tie for third place in the standings.

Myrtle Grove (5-3) built a 12-1 lead after the opening six minutes. The advantage grew to 18-5 at halftime. 

Sixth grader Sofia Clayton finished with a team-best six points for Holly Shelter (2-5).

Roland-Grise 51, Noble 12

(Played Wednesday)

Eighth grader Avery Fitzgerald scored nine of her career-high 20 points in the first quarter to lead the Knights to a dominant home win.

Roland-Grise (7-1) also got seven points from Jakicey Gardner and six from Ella Jones on a pair of 3-pointer. Twelve of the 14 Knights who saw action reached the scoring column.

Libby Harrington’s four points led Noble (2-6).

Murray 40, Trask 12

(Played Wednesday)

A 27-point effort from standout guard Brianna Stanley kept the Falcons unbeaten.

Through eight games, Murray (8-0) has outscored its opponents 372-89. They’ve allowed more than 15 points only twice.

Briley Forster scored six points to pace Trask (2-6).

Williston 27, Virgo 4

The Tigers snapped a two-game losing streak with a 23-point home victory behind 10 points from Ariana Mcphail-McCallister, who played only nine minutes.

Alleja Jenkins added seven points and five steals, while Khaniya Bryant chipped in four points for Williston (5-3), which is tied with Myrtle Grove for third place.

Virgo is now 0-7 on the season.

Both teams scored a goal in each half of a match that was played in muddy conditions.

Williston (2-3-1) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute on a goal from Adrian Aguirre Ibarra and off an assist by Axel Ramirez Gonzalez

Noble (2-3-1) evened the score with less than 30 seconds left in the first half. 

Deyson Castillo Cordova’s goal off an assist from Adrian Aguirre Ibarra in the 50th minute again gave the Tigers a brief lead.

The Eagles again scored just before the end of the regulation to force the tie.

Williston goalkeeper Wilbert Martinez Duarte had made five saves.

Myrtle Grove 5, Trask 0

Pablo Martinez scored twice to help the Gators earn their first victory of the season. 

Myrtle Grove (1-4-1) also got one a piece from Asher Clendenning, Jake Mungo and Yoell Ramirez.

With the loss, Trask dropped to 0-6.

Murray 3, Holly Shelter 2

(Played Monday)

Brayden Chase, Cameron Moore and Jude Moulton all found the back of the net in a road win that created a tie between the teams atop the standings.

Murray’s (5-1) defense was led by Andrew Whitby, Nick Martin and Colby Shoffner.

Holly Shelter saw its five-match winning streak come to a close.

The Gators avenged an earlier-season loss and earned their second victory of the week.

Myrtle Grove (2-4-1) built a 1-0 halftime lead before tacking on two more goals over the final 30 minutes.

Pablo Martinez, Stetler Risley and Yoell Ramirez had the goals for the home team. 

Holly Shelter (5-2) suffered its second loss of the week and slipped to third place in the standings.

Roland-Grise 1, Noble 0

Donovan Brotman scored the game’s lone goal in the 42nd minute to help the Knights move into second place in the standings.

Roland-Grise (5-1-1), which has won or tied its past five contests, outshot Noble (2-4-1) 10-6.

Murray 5, Trask 2

The road victory along with Holly Shelter’s loss at Myrtle Grove moved Murray into sole possession of first place.

Channing Segars and Clark Marriot both scored twice. The Falcons (5-1) also got a goal from Cameron Moore.

Trask (0-7) is still in search of its first win.
