2021-22 Girls Swimmer of the Year: Callie Parkes

Now that the winter sports season has come to a close, it’s time to reveal the All-Coastal Preps teams. Over the next week, you will get to know more about the players of the year while also seeing who made first and second team in boys and girls basketball, boys and girls swimming and wrestling.

For the second year in a row, the Coastal Preps Girls Swimmer of the Year is senior Callie Parkes from Hoggard.

Callie’s Accomplishments

Callie Parkes will go down in history as one of the best female freestyle sprinters to come out Wilmington.

The Akron signee capped her remarkable career by winning the 4A state title in the 50 freestyle with a season-best time of 23.19.

It was the first state championship for a Hoggard swimmer since Ashley Brem won the 100 breaststroke in 2012. Parkes also became the first swimmer – male of female – from a New Hanover County public school to win a title in a freestyle event.

Parkes finished seventh in the 100 freestyle, while also anchoring the 14th-place 4×200 freestyle relay and 17th-place 200 medley relay.

At the Mideastern Conference Championship, Parkes had four victories to help Hoggard claim its sixth straight team championship.

Parkes had the three fastest 50 freestyle times and six fastest 100 freestyle times in the area. She was also on the fastest 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.
