Now that the spring sports season has come to a close, it’s time to reveal the All-Coastal Preps teams. Over the next week, you will get to know more about the players of the year while also seeing who made first and second team in boys tennis, boys and girls track & field, boys and girls lacrosse, boys golf, girls soccer, softball and baseball.

For the second year in a row, the Coastal Preps Girls Soccer Offensive Player of the Year is sophomore Ella Johnson from Hoggard.

Ella’s Accomplishments

The Hoggard girls soccer team had another fantastic season by finishing 21-2-1 and reaching the NCHSAA 4A East final for the eighth time since 2010.

Sophomore Ella Johnson’s play was a major reason for the success. She missed the Vikings’ first six matches while still recovering from ACL surgery, but recorded a hat trick in her first game back against South Brunswick on April 4.

Johnson scored a total of 15 goals to go along with 10 assists, including six of each in the playoffs. Two of those goals came on remarkably-well struck free kicks against Holly Springs in the fourth round and Cardinal Gibbons in the East final.

Opposing teams recognized how dangerous Johnson was and often had two and sometimes three defenders in her vicinity at all times. Her incredible dribbling skills allowed her to get free and either take a shot or set up a teammate.
